I plugged my Toshiba HD DVD player into the power input on the back of my HDMI receiver, so I wouldn't have to cut it on and off all the time. However, whenever I cut the receiver off and back on, I have to go back into the setup mode for my HDDVD player all over again, as if it was rebooted. Should I not use the power input at all on the back of the receiver and just plug the DVD player into the surge protector? And if so, is there any device I should plug into the receiver? Thanks for any help.

Lastly, what is a good newbie resource for explaining the best way to connect all of your devices? The instructions have so many different configurations and are a bit confusing. I am assuming all my audio should come from the HD DVR, and the only thing I should have connected to my HD TV is one HDMI cable from the HDMI output on my receiver, correct (ie, I should not be running any sound connections to my TV)?

1) Plug it directly into the surge protector. I usually plug my CD player into my receiver, I wouldn't plug any video equipment into it.

2) HDMI from the devices to your AV receiver then one feed to the TV would be an idea set up. HDMI carries both video and audio, no need for seperate audio connectors.

If you need more assistance with hooking up your AV receiver, check out the audio section of the forum, this area is specifically for HD/digital reception devices.
