View Full Version : Forgive stupidity!
Theatro 01-10-08, 12:39 PM I love ht, but know enough to scratch the surface. Now when it comes to Projection you probalbly could spit and tell me its raining so to speak. I understand and quite agree that CRT's are the creme de la creme, but do they do HD such as 1080p. If so why would any one go to DLP, Lcd etc. projectors.

nashou66 01-10-08, 12:47 PM Most or all 9 inchers will do 1080p and some like myself run 1080p from there 8 inchers. So yes they will do 1080p.
A few resons many use digital is a lack of knowledge about crt's and thier cost. Many still think Crts are in the 20,000 dollar range or that they canot be found anymore. Also Digitals are just so easy to set up compared to CRT. Crt has become more of a hobby for us and requires patiance and lots of research to be able to set one up to perfection.

Brooklyn 01-10-08, 02:56 PM Digitals are much smaller and easier to setup. Also, they are still available new, and made by brands newbies have heard of.

WOW!!!! Talk about info overload. Thank you for the link very informative. As far as set up time, you guys certainly seem to feel it is worth the price of admission, right. I mean some of the pictures you guys post of the image is just jaw dropping.
So if I decided to go with CRT what extra equipment would I need to get full benefit of HD. Such as line quadripular etc.

I'd look for a used Video Processor, not called doublers anymore, Like a used Lumagen are very popular with CRT's and can be found on this forums for sale area or on Videogon site. Up date your location so we can see where you are and maybe if some one near you has a set up I'm sure theyd be happy to let you come see it. We're a bunch of freindly guys here on the CRT forum...well mostly !

Theatro 01-10-08, 04:29 PM Would you guys rank Marquee 9500lc and Sony G90 pretty even. Cause read some where parts for the sony are tough to come by.

nashou66 01-10-08, 06:04 PM They are both nice machines but the g90 parts are not as available. And if you are into DIY projects the marquee is a lot of fun, there are endless ways to improve on it. Just read Mike Parkers Maintenance thread and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Curt Palme 01-10-08, 10:47 PM Just answered your PM. BTW, check back on my site, we have just rewritten the 'connections' part of the FAQ, with more diagrams, now that there are more signal choices available, from composite video right through to HDMI and DVI. Kal should be posting the modded version in the next few days, and it will either clarify or confuse everyone more..;)
Theatro 01-13-08, 04:06 PM Can some one explain to me or give me a link that explains what BLEND means when refering, I'm guessing, to two CRT projectors.
Zebu Fellenz 01-13-08, 06:03 PM A blend is when you have two projectors and they are shooting on a screen side by side so each projector fills a certian percentage of the screen. Soft edge blending is used with CRT projectors, a soft edge refers to the blended side of each projectors image (middle of the screen) where the image brightness drops off on both projectors and they are overlaped.
Hope That Helps,
Erik
-For a better explanation do a search here or on Curt's site, or ask some of the guys who have blended setups.
-Ask Gino, Tim, William, etc.
PAPALEK 01-13-08, 06:12 PM I second the search. Gino has a nice setup.
