TiVoHD 01-10-08, 02:48 PM Do ANY of the dual format players currently support more than the core 2 channel Dolby TrueHD? No. taeboguy 01-10-08, 03:06 PM No. Hmmm...any one know if there is a reason why? Are they just trying to get by and do the bare minimum? ChicagoTC 01-10-08, 03:53 PM Hmmm...any one know if there is a reason why? Are they just trying to get by and do the bare minimum? Correct, this is all HD-DVDs require. jcpom 01-11-08, 11:24 AM Do ANY of the dual format players currently support more than the core 2 channel Dolby TrueHD? By support do you mean decode or bitstream? ChicagoTC 01-11-08, 11:37 AM By support do you mean decode or bitstream? I believe this is irrelevant, the answer either way is no. jcpom 01-11-08, 12:10 PM I believe this is irrelevant, the answer either way is no.Thank you. So I understand, it is NOT possible get lossless audio from any DF player and currently only SF players can deliver lossless. ChicagoTC 01-11-08, 01:12 PM Thank you. Correct, the LG and Samsung 5k can only do 2 channel TrueHD and AFAIK neither can do DTS-HD. I'm not 100% sure of the LG but I believe this is the case. Seeing as how they both use the same Broadcom chip it makes sense that their audio limitations would be indentical. Babel_Fish 01-11-08, 01:19 PM is TrueHD and DTS-HD only for HDDVD or is it also supported on BlueRay? Hope this is not too far off topic.. ChicagoTC 01-11-08, 01:21 PM Both formats support both, however most blu-ray is DTS-HD and HD-DVD is TrueHD. Babel_Fish 01-11-08, 01:24 PM Is one better then the other? ( last question :) ) tostitobandito 01-11-08, 01:48 PM Is one better then the other? ( last question :) ) You would be very hard pressed to tell the difference between uncompressed PCM, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD MA assuming the same number of channels for each. They are all lossless. Bitrates can vary a bit, but again it's probably not noticable even on a spectacular audio setup. jdmac29 01-11-08, 02:06 PM Is this the same chip in the PS3? I guess I am trying to figure out what the lmitation is? From what I have read basically it can not decode the dts ma or bitsream it either is that correct? I haven't had too much time to play with the 5000 and my new Yamaha 3800 yet to confirm. tostitobandito 01-11-08, 02:22 PM Doesn't the 5000 do uncompressed PCM? I haven't had too much time to play with the 5000 and my new Yamaha 3800 yet to confirm. Yes. the 5000 does uncompressed PCM up to 7.1 just fine. jcpom 01-11-08, 04:40 PM Yes. the 5000 does uncompressed PCM up to 7.1 just fine. Is this also true for LG 200? tostitobandito 01-11-08, 05:49 PM Is this also true for LG 200? As far as I know yes. jedi.master.dre 02-02-09, 04:36 PM Do ANY of the dual format players currently support more than the core 2 channel Dolby TrueHD? Do they decode more than 2 channels yet? vinnie97 02-02-09, 04:40 PM Yes, both of them do (and have for over half a year). jedi.master.dre 02-02-09, 04:45 PM Yes, both of them do (and have for over half a year). Sweet! So set it to PCM? What about DTS HD MA? vinnie97 02-02-09, 05:27 PM Set it to PCM if your receiver doesn't decode the formats. The players only bitstream DTS-MA so PCM won't give you the complete benefit of that format. jedi.master.dre 02-02-09, 05:52 PM Set it to PCM if your receiver doesn't decode the formats. The players only bitstream DTS-MA so PCM won't give you the complete benefit of that format. Thanks for the information Vinnie! Hopefully they internally decode DTS-HD MA sometime. |
