Do ANY of the dual format players currently support more than the core 2 channel Dolby TrueHD?

No.

No.

Hmmm...any one know if there is a reason why? Are they just trying to get by and do the bare minimum?

Correct, this is all HD-DVDs require.

By support do you mean decode or bitstream?

I believe this is irrelevant, the answer either way is no.

Correct, the LG and Samsung 5k can only do 2 channel TrueHD and AFAIK neither can do DTS-HD. I'm not 100% sure of the LG but I believe this is the case.

Seeing as how they both use the same Broadcom chip it makes sense that their audio limitations would be indentical.

is TrueHD and DTS-HD only for HDDVD or is it also supported on BlueRay? Hope this is not too far off topic..

Both formats support both, however most blu-ray is DTS-HD and HD-DVD is TrueHD.

Is one better then the other? ( last question :) )

You would be very hard pressed to tell the difference between uncompressed PCM, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD MA assuming the same number of channels for each. They are all lossless. Bitrates can vary a bit, but again it's probably not noticable even on a spectacular audio setup.

Is this the same chip in the PS3? I guess I am trying to figure out what the lmitation is? From what I have read basically it can not decode the dts ma or bitsream it either is that correct?

Doesn't the 5000 do uncompressed PCM? I haven't had too much time to play with the 5000 and my new Yamaha 3800 yet to confirm.

Yes. the 5000 does uncompressed PCM up to 7.1 just fine.

Is this also true for LG 200?

Do they decode more than 2 channels yet?

Yes, both of them do (and have for over half a year).

Sweet! So set it to PCM? What about DTS HD MA?

Set it to PCM if your receiver doesn't decode the formats. The players only bitstream DTS-MA so PCM won't give you the complete benefit of that format.

Thanks for the information Vinnie! Hopefully they internally decode DTS-HD MA sometime.
