View Full Version : will a 2:1 hdmi switch work in reverse? reybie 01-11-08, 12:28 PM I'm playing with this idea in my head so I can use the switch to send 1 signal to either my LCD or Projector. Search for Distribution Amps, which may or may not need power. reybie 01-14-08, 03:52 PM Thanks, I was originally looking at this splitter (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011301&p_id=3049&seq=1&format=2) but I really did not need the simultaneous output. rwestley 01-17-08, 06:34 AM The only one that I know that will work in reverse is the $18 manual Monoprice switch with a modification. You must open the switch and short out the two small resistors. There is a thread someplace on how to do this. reybie 01-17-08, 08:49 AM Interesting, thank you very much! I will try and dig out that thread. Edit: Found it! :) for future reference... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=877595 rwestley 01-18-08, 07:46 AM There is another thread somplace on how to short the tiny resistors out. If you can't find it try the following. 1. Open the case you will see two very small resistors. 2. Get a small strand of wire and short the resistors out. That is all you need to do to make the switch work in reverse. srw1000 01-19-08, 02:49 PM There is another thread somplace on how to short the tiny resistors out. Scott rwestley 01-19-08, 09:12 PM It does work with the $18 switch. The switch has no chips in it it just switches from one input to the other. I would not think that there should be much risk to making the mod. You do realize that you can only use one output at a time using this method. I have the 4x2 switch so I have no need to make the mod but others have used it with success. It is a cheap solution for those who might want to try. I would expect that Monoprice or any other company would not recommend making modifications on their products. I don't see any problems making the mod since it can easily be removed. As with any mod you must do it at your own risk. moviegeek 01-20-08, 12:02 AM BTW:it's a diode not a resistor that you short out. rwestley 01-20-08, 07:44 AM Thanks, you are correct about the diode. |
