View Full Version : HDMI 1x2 Splitter: Accell vs. Monoprice?
Has anyone tried splitting their HDMI signal with Accell's newer 1x2 HDMI splitter ($100)?
UltraAV™ HDMI 1-2 Audio/Video Splitter (http://www.accellcables.com/products/videoCables/HDMI/splitter.htm)
Seems like a good option, however I'm torn b/w this and monoprice's long-standing 1x2 splitter option ($70):
1X2 Powered HDMI Splitter (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011301&p_id=3049&seq=1&format=2)
I realize YMMV depending on what displays you're using (I have two Phillips), but there doesn't seem to be a single solution people are going with in this dept.
I am looking to split the HDMI A/V output of my TivoHD.
rwestley 01-17-08, 06:36 AM Try the Monoprice they have a great return policy if you have an issue.
The Monoprice 1x2 HDMI splitter has a 10m (32ft) maximum cable length limit. I've seen others with a 100ft limit. It has a 9V 1A power supply, so it can't use more than 9 watts max. It probably uses around 5 Watts.
Does anyone know what the cable length range and power consumption is of the UltraAV™ HDMI 1-2 Audio/Video Splitter?
I contacted Accell, and was told the maximum cable length is 5 meters.
UltraAV™ HDMI 1-2 Audio/Video Splitter (by Accell) = 5m
1X2 Powered HDMI Splitter (by monoprice) = 10m
With that, I would go with whatever is cheaper assuming you don't need anything over 5m. I need something that can support a signal up to 35ft (about 10.7m). Does anyone know of a good quality splitter that supports that length?
ehanson555 07-12-08, 01:37 PM I just bought the Monoprice 1x2 powered splitter. It works with one big caveat, at least for me. It does not work with HDMI extender devices (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041907&p_id=2849&seq=1&format=2). There is a customer review at the Monoprice product site which says the same thing, but I can confirm this. Outside of this, it works as advertised.

To answer my own question, Monoprice has a 4x2 that might work. It is hit and miss on whether it will perform (read the reviews), but it might be worth trying.
UltraAV™ HDMI 1-2 Audio/Video Splitter (Accell) = 5m (16.4ft), $189
1X2 Powered HDMI Splitter (Monoprice) = 10m (32.8ft), $68.63
4X2 True Matrix (Monoprice) = 15m (49.2), $79.20

I bought the True Matrix 4x2 (monoprice). It works with a 35ft cable, but it reduces image quality significantly. I would not recommend it.
Note: It is supposed to work with Extenders unlike the 1x2 powered splitter (monoprice).
crutschow 09-30-08, 07:03 PM The length of HDMI cable that will work at the output of a splitter or switch is mainly dependent on the quality of cable and whether there is an equalizer/extender at the receiving end of the cable (some new TV's have this built in). The problem is not a lack of signal level, but that the frequency rolloff of a long cable causes the one's and zero's to run together (losing the "eye"). This can only be corrected by using an extender/equalizer at the receiving end of the cable. There is little that can be done at the transmit end to reduce this problem.
When a switch or splitter says they have an extender/equalizer amp built-in, that works to extend the length of the cable going to the unit, not from the unit.
Toto, we're not in analog any more.

What type of reduction in quality did you see?

There is no flickering or loss of video. It just looks more like I'm watching a VHS movie than a DVD. I think it looks more like it would if I was watching the DVD from a computer with a low quality video card. For example: When the face of a person is in front of a dark background, it looks pixelized around the face.
As for the cable quality...
The reduction in image quality I am talking about is on my TV which is only has a 3ft long HDMI cable (DVD to splitter = 3ft, Splitter to TV = 3ft, Splitter to Projector = 35ft). I haven't watched anything on the projector yet. I only tested it and it worked.
All cables are high quality. There is a great comparison test on HDMI cables here:

Nevermind what I said about the Video Quality... It's Good!
I had a bad HDMI cable. Yup, I changed one o the cables, and everything looks good. I would recommend this product. Even thought the cable was new, I think it was damaged or something. Anyway, it looks good now.
Sorry if I mislead you.

It did not work for me at ALL. I called monoprice and was told they 'have some issues with denon receivers'. they took it back.
so Im back to square 1 :/
Update: ...And now it's Bad!
The 4x2 Matrix died after only afew months. I can't get it to work at all anymore. I learned my lesson: stay away from generic electronic products.
I bought a generic 1x2 HDMI splitter off of eBay, because of it's guaranty. It works great. It was cheaper than my dead Monoprice garbage, and it takes up a small fraction of the space the monoprice garbage did.
It looks like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31ZH05Dk2LL._SS500_.jpg
Monoprice would not post my review for their garbage. Don't buy from monoprice
I am having problem with mono price pro splitter too
I got the monoprice 1x2 pro splitter and it will not work with my Denon AVR-1909. Has anyone with a Denon receiver found a powered HDMI splitter that works for them?
