I'm sure this has been discussed before.
Is there any way to get a program that has been recorded on a HR20 onto another piece of media?

You cannot make a digital copy of a program. You can through component, s-video, or composite output put the program on a DVD (standard definition not HD) through any number of techniques which have been discussed here and other places.

Can you provide a link which uses a laptop computer?
Thanks.

I don't have a specific link, but there are devices that take a composite or s-video plus audio input from the DVR and output to the computer via USB. The device converts the analog signal to digital in a format the computer can use. You can then use DVD authoring software to produce a DVD. I don't have such a device (I use a stand alone DVD recorder), but they are readily available in computer stores. I believe they are less than $100, and I don't know how good a job they do.

Trich,
How good are the recordings? Are they smooth? Does it work with shows already recorded on my HR-20?
Thanks.

I've had this for years and if I were going to get a new one I would get one with HD. The recordings are very good and smooth. And yes you can watch or record any thing on your HR20. This pvr is analog only so after Feb 2009 it will not be any good. What I like about these devices is you can watch tv and surf at the same time. Just pull the screen to any size you want and always on top. There are a lot better pvrs for your laptop out now, do a google, its your friend or go here. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=26

This pvr is analog only so after Feb 2009 it will not be any good. So what is happing in Feb 2009 that will render this PVR obsolete? In your description above, you don't mention anything about using an OTA antenna to receive analog broadcasts.
