I remember seeing an articles a while back saying that MS was going to release a new sideshow version of their media center remote in april. Has it come out yet? I can't seem to find it at the electronic retailers.

Philips and Interlink appeared to have remotes ready for an Spring 2007 release but AFAIK they never materialized.

The latest and greatest impending release appears to be from Ricavision -- the "VAVE100 Windows® SideShow Vista Universal Remote Control provides direct access and complete control of home entertainment devices, the Windows® Vista Media Center and the Windows® SideShow. VAVE100 has a 2.4 inch color QVGA LCD display, features Class 1 SPP/A2DP Bluetooth and is upgradable through the built-in mini USB. VAVE100 comes with a docking station that features a RC6 receiver, a Bluetooth transceiver and a power charger."

See here for more info: http://www.ricavisionplix.com/VAVE100_Universal_Remote_Control_p/vave100.htm

Pre-orders for this $349 MSRP remote are now being taken for a Feb 29, 2008 (Leap Day!) release.

Do you think is the worth the premium I'd pay over one of those relatively nice Logitech remotes (with the colour LCD, but no Sideshow)?

Philips has the SRM7500/37 (http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/us/consumer/cc/_productid_SRM7500_37_US_CONSUMER/Multimedia-Remote-Control+SRM7500-37) available. I just ordered one from newegg. I'll let you know how it is. It "looks" exactly like what I want from a remote... and the price was only about $150. Philips doesn't make any mention of SideShow but I'm going to guess that's what this is.

Well it's not a true SideShow remote as far as I can tell. It is a RF based MCE remote, with media browsing, as well as a universal IR remote. This is basically all I wanted in a remote. It works as advertised. I haven't spent that much time with it yet. It has a B&W screen, and the graphics are crude. If you're just interested in browsing through the songs by title, genre, playlist, etc. though it works fine.

This kinda product would be great! No more need for my buggy 8" touchscreen.

Can someone please give some basic info about what sideshow actually is.

Have I understood correctly that its a two-way remote that could for example show the image of the main screen in the remote window all transfered with bluetooth? :)

I run xp home and mediaportal, would a remote like this send the media portal main viewing screen "image" to the remote??

I use my touchscreen display to play music and radio when my main screen is not on and its great, allthough its mounted on a wall and I have to get my fat ass (hehe) off the couch to change the music because the image is too small to read from there... a remote in my hand with the complete image from mediportal with album artworks, icons and for example radio station menues (ie. everything just as it looks on the main screen) would ge great...

IMind: what OS are you running? The reviwe on newegg says it doesn't run on Vista 64. I'm going to run Vista 32 and this looks like it might be what I want.

Thanks.

I'm VERY disappointed in RICAVISION, not only on missed shipping dates, but on the fact that they had a pre-release price of 274.95 they would not honor, saying it ended on Christmas when I ordered on 28 Dec. Of course there was no announced end date to the special. Bad business.
