i can't get my 8300HDC to work as a pass-through for video. i had a previous 8300HDC that did it, so i know its possible. but i had to take that one back for an HDMI port i think crapped out.
this one i haven't seen it send anything but 1080i for both HD and SD channels. my Sharp 46D64's scaler/deinterlacer is plenty good, and i don't want this box fuggin with the signal. i already tried going into settings and changing it to Auto DVI as the SA online manual suggests, but it didn't work.
i'm in Kansas City with Everest Cable. help.

We have an SA8300HD (running SARA in a TWC system) but not the "C" version. The factory or default output is set to 1080i only. It it's like ours, you can access a wizard to enable/disable all the possible output resolutions this way:
1. Turn the STB off, but leave the TV on.
2. Press INFO and GUIDE on the front of the box at the same time.
3. A little routine will start that will test all of the possible output resolutions one a time. You will have the opportunity to enable or disable any or all that you want active.
We have 480i, 1080i, 720p, and 480p enabled, but not 480i/widescreen (we let the set do stretch when needed)
Then to select how the STB handles the resolutions, set the display format:
1. Turn the box on normally and then press the "settings" button on the remote twice.
2. Scroll up or down to "Set: picture format", and select the option that makes the most sense.
We use "pass through" and let our set do the cross conversion from the non native resolutions. You may want "fixed" or "Auto HDMI" (only shows if the HDMI port is enabled and connected to a set that handshakes OK). I don't recommend either of the upconvert options but you may want to experiment with them.
There is a long thread ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=581843 ) that covers this and other useful tidbits; I think the "8300 Tips and Tricks" is especially useful.
