I just got a new DirecTV HD DVR, around the beginning of December I guess. I have no problems watching live TV, and on the installers notes, I see he wrote down signal strength as 98. But almost every, if not every program I watch that I have recorded, there are bits and pieces that are pixelated. Not a ton, but definitely enough to be annoying. The sound messes up as well as the video.
Any ideas on whether I have a bad unit, or if there is something I can do to fix the issue?
Thanks

Agreed, call and have it exchanged, it should still be under it's 90 day warrenty if you just got it.
DTV = Digital Television by the way, D* = Directv.

I finally got a new receiver, actually refurbished but oh well, and I still have te same issue. I still only happens on recorded TV, but that is mostly what I watch, so maybe I just never see it watching live TV.
On my signal strength, should every number be in the 90's or higher? I do get some lower ones on Sat 101, (4, 12, 20, 28), are all between 70-88 for signal strength. Then the last of the 3 satellites has some at 0.
Do I need to get my dish realigned maybe, or what else could the problem be?

Sorry to bump this thread, but can some others tell me what signal strength they are getting? I would like tot know if that is my problem or if it is something else.

If you aren't seeing pixelation during live TV, signal strength isn't your problem. I'd suggest you check the HR2x forum over at dbstalk for support on the Directv HD DVR's, ton of information there.

I'll head over there, thanks.
