HI...
I'm not new to audio but have been out of touch with it for several years.
I'm setting up my theatre with a Optoma HD80 that's ceiling mounted.
I'm on a bit of a budget and need some ideas on how to hook up my components.
I'm not looking for bone crushing sound but want the video to perform at full 1080P from the PSP3, Blue Ray movies, HD-DVD movies, and HDTV cable box
What I have:
Only 1 HDMI cable going to ceiling mounted projector
Sony PSP3 80gb
Older (2000) Kenwood 5.1 surround sound amp/tuner
Older Panasonic DVD player.
Speakers but no sub
I will probably add a HDTV cable box and maybe a HD-DVD player as well at some point.

The Sony PSP3 has HDMI and optical sound out.
I need to convert that to get the sound through my amp/tuner and get the video to the projector.
I'm assuming I will need some sort of splitter/convertor box?

Any ideas would be awesome!

Would you not just hook all the components up to a simple AV receiver then send the video via HDMI to the proj and audio to the amp (if you still want to use it - if not use the AVR as an amp).

You can pick up a simple HDMI receiver these days.

I have all my video running right to my Denon and a single HDMI cable to my Optoma. DVD & HD Cable Box all feed into my Denon. I have component video running from the VCR/DVD burner.

I also ran the second HDMI output to a small LCD TV by my bad. That way those people by the bar can watch it there or on the big screen.

Congrats on the HD80... I love mine!
