I have a Sony 1272q and I absolutely love it. I have it hooked up to my PC with a d-15 breakout to 5BNC, and right now I have my ps3 hooked up to the s-video port. This of course does not give me anything higher than 480i. I also have a switcher box with lots of normal 5bnc cards, remote cable, and ifb-12a card. I'm trying to find out the best option for adding 1080i or 720p to my ps3. Ive looked up many options but each seems to work but I dont know the draw backs for either. I don't want to pay for a cheap item that I wont be happy with, but spending thousands of dollars on something is out of the question.

These are the options I have looked up.

IFB-12 card set for component? Would this work with a ps3?

A cheap transcoder. I see these on ebay. The ones i was looking at were vdigi vd-z3 or Neoya x2vga+ or this one at newegg kworld tvbox 1680ex.

A viewsonic n6 - I can find this cheap but its pretty old now is it no better than a cheap transcoder?

A hdmi input card like the moome card This would be kinda nice but its close to the price the projector itself and im worried that hdmi standards would change and i would be stuck.

An HDFury - This seems pretty new and seems to decode hdmi, but does anyone have any experience using it, ntm it was mention as a buy on curt palme's website.

A reasonably priced used scaler - I know this is probably an oxymoron, but its worth looking into.

Anyway any input (pun intended) would help me out.

Does the PS3 output a component signal, if it does then it will work with the component input card for the 1270 and will be the cheapest option as it won't cost you any extra unless you have to buy a cable for the PS3 to make it output component.

The best but also the most expensive is the moome external box as it has both HDMI and component input as well as a low end (lowest 10% of the signal) gamma correction specially made for CRT PJ's to help bring out the shadow detail, this is different to normal gamma correction which corrects over the whole gamma curve.

I don't know that the IFB-12 would be an option for HD component on a 1270. I know there's a set of supposedly working switch settings, but I could never get HD component into my 1271 that way.

As Dave mentions, there are several options.

A) Probably the cheapest, but still excellent is an HD Fury. Lots of guys with 12xx's (and other projectors) are running the HD Fury and are very happy with it. I have a Toshiba XA1 and PS3 both running on the HD Fury and it works beautifully on my 1271. Excellent PQ. No gamma, of course. What goes it is what comes in. $159 with cable.

B) Crescendo RTC2200 reverse transcoder. Excellent box with gamma control. Great if you have any other component devices - use with a component switch or AV receiver. SD DVD limited to 480p playback. $189.

C) Moome EXT-HD or IFB-HD. Gamma control. Excellent. A little pricey at $340-435, and you could be waiting awhile for them.

I'd give the HD Fury a go and see what you think. There are lots of people using them and dozens of threads about it in Curt's forum. Check it out.

The IFB-12 is a definite no with a 1270, since the two aren't compatible, except in RGB mode.

I would get the HD-fury, it seems like a good value for the money and should work with any HDMI source you get in the future.

The HDFury is what I use to drive my CRT projector from my PS3. (Ok, it does also go through an RTC2200 to give it a really nice gamma boost. I also have a Moome EXT-HD here that'll replace both once the ringing problem is fixed in hopefully a few days) :)

Another vote for the HD Fury! I'm using a HD Fury with my CRT Projector & PS3 for Blu Ray.

Thanks for all the advice, ive decide to get an HDFury, its seems the best quality option with the most flexablity, ntm people were raving about it on curt's forum . Thanks for all the replies.

I got my HD Fury, it was 2.5 days shipped from Taiwan  After a little mix up with the H and V inputs, it works beautifully now with a HDMI|DVI cable. If anyone wants to have a digital input to your projector, I highly recommend it.
