I only order from Monoprice now. Their cables are absolutely top-notch. Monster Cables are vastly overpriced, especially from BestBuy. I just bought two 10 foot HDMi 1.3 cables from them this week for 6 bucks
schroedk 01-12-08, 11:42 AM I haven't ordered a cable or accessory from anywhere other than Monoprice in about 1 1/2 years, and haven't regretted it once. Everything I've ordered has either been 100% satisfactory, or was replaced/rectified quickly and without fuss. The ONLY thing I've returned was a 4x2 HDMI matrix switch (first generation) that had extremely bright LEDs and was sluggish/unresponsive with my Harmony remote. Sean Lee (the owner) personally took care of the return, as he was seeing concerns by AVSForum members.
Try them out. You won't regret it. And for the price of your order vs. one HDMI cable elsewhere, what do you have to lose?
I have been ordering my cables from MonoPrice for around 2 years great service and cables. My latest purchase was a 6ft HDMI cable 1.3 rating for 7 bucks for my Panny LCD. There cables are top notch.
stepmback 01-14-08, 10:11 AM I have had great luck with cables and cable type accessories. But have had bad luck with their switchers and splitters. My recommendation would be cable good, equipment bad...:)
fiddlyd 01-14-08, 10:18 AM thanks guys....i should get the wire this week and will see how it goes.

i just ran some 1000 feet of monoprice cable in my basement. i hope it all works when the switch is flipped? :)

120hz is a refresh rate of your display, has nothing to do with your cables.
CaCHooKa Man 01-15-08, 04:05 AM i just made my first purchase from monoprice last night. i bought a dvi-hdmi cable and a regular hdmi 1.3a cable. it should be coming in tomorrow since i live a couple hours away from where they ship from.

ok i got my wires and hooked everything up. i must say that that the hdmi cable is very stiff and very hard to manage. i have everything on a wall rack and evrytime i moved something alittle they hdmi would pop out of the reciver. my older monster hdmi was ALOT more flexible. i cant tell you about video quality as im still testing.
the speaker wire was also not impressing, that too was very stiff. but it did the job. you still cant beat the price.

rwestley 01-19-08, 12:24 PM Monoprice has many types of cable. The thick cable is stiff but of very good quality. It is great for long runs. You can get the other cables that are less stiff for shorter runs. I have been using their cables for about 2 years without issues. There prices and quality are great. I always but a few extra cables to have them around since I had to pay the big box store prices. You can also add the port savers on the end of each cable if you are worried about the weight of the cables on your internal ports.

I like my speaker wire to be flexible.. thats the only compliant i have with the monoprice. oh one more thing i forgot to mention... i ordered the 100' roll. i used it all and theres no way in the world that i used 100'... i measured my runs and there wasnt more than 70' of run.
everything is up and runnig so im happy anyway.

lodolfan 01-21-08, 05:07 PM I'm about to place an order with monoprice and I'm totally confused as to which cables are thick and which are thinner and more flexible. How can you tell from the description? Can anyone recommend a good quality thinner, flexible HDMI 1.3a cable to run in-wall thats about 12 ft in length?

the higher the gauge number the thinner the wire...24g is thicker than 28g

Thanks for the clarification fiddlyd. From what I've been reading here @ AVS, for longer cable lengths, a thicker cable like the 24g is recommended . In your opinion, would a 15 ft. 28g HDMI monoprice cable perform as well (picture quality wise) as a 6 ft. 28g HDMI monoprice cable?

It may work fine. But I think 15-feet for 28 AWG is asking for trouble. With certain equipment you might run into image anomalies.
For Monoprice-level cable, I'd recommend 26 AWG for 15 feet, but unfortunately, very few people sell that. (Well, it seems some brand names sell that, but it can be hard to know since they usually don't put the wire gauge on the label.) So, for places like Monoprice and Blue Jeans you're usually stuck with the thick 24 AWG cable, which is considerably stiffer than 26 AWG cable. However, that's OK because if necessary you can just buy a < 1-foot long 28 AWG port saver to lessen the strain on your ports.
Actually, I personally don't use port savers with my 24 AWG cable. It's routed in such a fashion so that any stress on the port is minimized. I use 24 AWG cable for both my 25-foot run (silver-plated) and my 15-foot run (tin-plated).
Datatrouble, I note your quote says 24 AWG instead of 28, so the above should answer your question.
fiddlyd 02-11-09, 01:10 PM i agree for 15' go with 24g...but beware i use the monprice 24g and ruined the port on my reviever..i had to change the whole board..i know use port savers on the 24g

I built a pair of these:

Impressive? ;)
Howcome I always see Monoprice cables? I don't think anyone ever mentioned Tartan. They sell the same cables from the same manufacturer, COPARTNER. I ended up buying a couple of 6 ft cables from Monoprice as well since they didn't have the 3 feet I needed. Then I stumbled upon Tartan Cables. They have the 3-feet that I needed. However, only through Paypal if ordered on-line. Must call or fax for credit card charges. And they only carry cables. Maybe that's the reason why because Monoprice has more than just these types of cables? I dunno...
Monoprice is the best for prices and I have received most of my cables from there, but there shipping cost to canada can be to much. Sometimes im paying more for shipping to canada, then i am for the products, they should really look into a cheaper shipping method here. Its prevented me from buying a few times.

Now THAT's an impressive twisted pair of speaker cable :p ...where can I pick that up???

Monoprice on 24AWG 3 feet - $6.97 for 1 and $6.50 for orders between 2-9
Tartan for the same spec - $6.50 a piece
So the benefit for Monoprice is that they carry more than cables and if you order more than 1 in this example.
Not bashing Monoprice because I did order from them a much longer hdmi since the 3 feet were out of stock at the time. I was just curious as to why Tartan was never mentioned for those "single" purchases. ;) Which would be a waste... :p
You might want to consider some banana plugs from Monoprice they are pretty inexpensive and they really help when connecting speaker wire.
Stew4msu 02-11-09, 05:40 PM If you change speaker connections frequently or if for some reason the binding posts are very hard to get to, then banana plugs are certainly worth it.
If neither of those situations apply, they're probably a waste of money. They do not help the signal and in some cases, may hinder it.

Well, Tartan is just Blue Jeans Cable (http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/hdmi-cables/index.htm). You see Blue Jeans mentioned all the time.
Both Blue Jeans and Monoprice are forum sponsors.
I use both. I own Blue Jeans Series 2, Blue Jeans Tartan, and Monoprice cables.

Tartan is Blue Jeans? Now that makes more sense... Had I known that, I should've just ordered those 3 feet hmdi's with them instead. But I didn't even bother looking at Blue Jeans either, so my fault. :D

Considering I put in about 20 hours of braiding and other assemply per 3m run...
times 2 for a pair...
let's say this is semi-skilled labour, so $9/hr...
20 x $9.00 x 2 = $360
less 20% AVSForum member discount...
$288
Sound fair enough? I take cash and credit! :)
