LongbowJim 01-12-08, 03:47 PM Getting serious vocal sync issues on DirecTV during the pregame on both of my HR-20s... anyone else?
BigDawgQC 01-12-08, 03:57 PM Audio sync is good but the studio pre-game show is not as clear and sharp as Fox's NFL coverage usually is.
Raleigh NC Time Warner
Inundated 01-12-08, 04:05 PM The studio pregame was in SD, at least here, until about 5-10 minutes ago. Then, it switched to HD.
WJW-DT Cleveland via Time Warner Cable
Inundated 01-12-08, 04:14 PM On second thought, the studio itself does look like it's 480p widescreen or whatever. The other HD program material is fine.
BigDawgQC 01-12-08, 04:18 PM Scenes from the stadium and field level look great.
Splicer010 01-12-08, 04:21 PM Looks like HD to me...:D
Audio has been perfect...
WXIX-DT Cincinnati via TWC
QAM tuner
Playoffs and snow in the air - can it get any better?
CPanther95 01-12-08, 04:26 PM Poor Kenny Albert looks like he got caught out in the elements.
jimijam28 01-12-08, 04:31 PM no hd here in denver ,ota or dish,, come on channel 31 get your **** together

The studio is 480i widescreen upconverted to 720p.
On second thought, the studio itself does look like it's 480p widescreen or whatever. That's because the studio segments are 480i upconverted to 720p.
Playoffs and snow in the air - can it get any better?
Yes, beer & brats!
Wow, 3rd play of the game, Seahawks touchdown, 7-0.
Mike4HDTV 01-12-08, 04:40 PM Very good PQ via OTA.
Quick score by the Seahawks after the fumble.
CPanther95 01-12-08, 04:44 PM Playoffs and snow in the air - can it get any better?
Snow on the ground in South Carolina would be even better.
Oh boy, another turnover.....
Holy cow, 4:01 in and Seattle is up 14-0.
No HD in Denver! I don't understand how they can get away with this
Mike4HDTV 01-12-08, 04:54 PM The Seahawks came to play today. Green Bay needs to stop fumbling the ball and have a TD scoring drive to get back into the game.
Was I the only one hoping for a hat trick on the fumbles during Green Bay's third drive? Not because I hate the Pack, but because it would have been funny. Oh well, they pull out the TD pass to Jennings for 6.
paule123 01-12-08, 05:00 PM Has the hallmarks of a low bitrate Fox broadcast.
50 yard cams showing a lot of artifacts, dancing grass, (even before the snow started heavily). End zone cams (cable cam?) also showing heavy artifacts.
WJW-DT Cleveland, no subchannels. OTA as well as D* MPEG4 locals. Noticed the PQ problems first on my measly little home office 20" LCD, then went downstairs to verify on the big 50" 1080p plasma.
Green Bay needs to stop fumbling the ball and have a TD scoring drive to get back into the game. And they do just that.
If this snow keeps up, it will be a factor.
Geremia P. 01-12-08, 05:04 PM No HD in Denver! I don't understand how they can get away with thisI left a voicemail for engineering at KDVR at 303-595-3131. Does anyone have a better #?
KDVR 31 Denver's signal went black for about 70 sec, then came back... still in SD!!!
KMPH-DT in Bakersfield, CA (OTA).
Paule, on my broadcast the cable cam looks phenomenal, and the endzone cam looks great as well. The Field cam looks slightly worse, but that may be because of all the snow. Contrast looks great, with the Packers green jerseys against the snow. Haven't seen many artifacts yet.
I left a voicemail for engineering at KDVR at 303-595-3131. Does anyone have a better #?
I called and got Ron Zappolo! ...but I'm pretty sure they know about it and they're working on it.
Still... somebody's gunna get their butt chewed...
I just called KDVR's newsroom and he said they are working on it.
kevinivey 01-12-08, 05:11 PM Snow on the ground in South Carolina would be even better.
no thanks, got shorts on and flip flops!:)
Great video and audio. Wach-DT Columbia SC.
evader45 01-12-08, 05:20 PM KDVR went HD for a split second, and then back to SD. WTF?
Ramsrule 01-12-08, 05:23 PM Packers tie it up!
All things considered, the PQ looks pretty good on both D* MPEG4 local and OTA via WRAZ out of Raleigh.
KDVR went HD for a split second, and then back to SD. WTF?It's a lot more complicated than you know.
Ramsrule 01-12-08, 05:27 PM KDVR went HD for a split second, and then back to SD. WTF?
probably means they're working on it?
Wow, a Seahawks fumble? What comes around goes around.
Ramsrule 01-12-08, 05:28 PM uh oh.... Seahawks returning the turnover favor back to the Packers.
Its almost as if the first quarter never happened, and now its just a 3 quarter game. Except the Packers are 2nd and Goal.
Wow, Packers take the lead, 21-14.
Ramsrule 01-12-08, 05:36 PM So what are your thoughts on the way this broadcast team is set up with Tony Siragusa on the field vs in the booth?
I think it's kind of strange hearing the increase in the crowd noise when he cuts his mic on.
Also, I'm sure he'd have a better view from the booth, but I dont know how much that would help him. His analysis is on the generic side for the most part IMO.
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-12-08, 05:38 PM Goose is always on the field and almost always in the back of the end zones.
Ramsrule 01-12-08, 05:48 PM Goose is always on the field and almost always in the back of the end zones.
Yeah, I know that. For me, this was the first time I noticed his mic being cut on and off by the GB crowd noise increase.
Erik Tracy 01-12-08, 05:48 PM Watching now on XETV HD, San Diego, via TWC (STB HD8300HDC/HDMI/720p).
Field level cams look sharp, closeups sharp, stadium cams from full view don't have sharp edges - artifacting, some swimming grass.
Erik
Jeremy W 01-12-08, 05:49 PM So what are your thoughts on the way this broadcast team is set up with Tony Siragusa on the field vs in the booth?
I don't feel like Goose adds anything of real value to the broadcast, so it wouldn't bother me if he weren't in the stadium at all.
As far as the PQ of this broadcast, taking the snow into account, this is one of the best-looking Fox NFL broadcasts I've seen all season.
Conquest0511 01-12-08, 06:02 PM this is one of the best-looking Fox NFL broadcasts I've seen all season.
+1
This game looks great on WTIC-DT via Comcast. The snow just adds to it. A little more on field and crowd noise would be nice but this game is well done by Fox.
Yes, beer & brats!
Not bad, but for some reason brats don't taste as good once you get south of Missouri.
So I upgraded to Ribeye. :)
mx6bfast 01-12-08, 06:43 PM Man I wish it would snow here in Memphis.
WHBQ, OTA, no subs. Considering the elements, PQ not too bad. FOX sending up to 3 mbps more for the NFL than they did the BCS.

OMG, did FOX just show a promo for Prison Break on the screen? Have they turned into NBC???
man todays snow bowl is looking amazing good PQ!
watching OTA WVBT (norfolk, va) via D* HR20.
just watch i expected frm FOX SPORTS!
Nice use of the cart camera for game coverage due to snow obscuring the view from the normal up cameras.
icemannyr 01-12-08, 06:51 PM WNYW-DT NYC FIOS TV
Even with the snow causing some macroblocking the PQ is still better then any NBC broadcast.

BTW: Watching on WJBK via Comcast in Detroit and the video looks great, one of the best FOX NFL shows I have seen.
Splicer010 01-12-08, 06:52 PM My wife thinks this is more snow than the Cleveland game a few weeks ago...
sebenste 01-12-08, 06:54 PM Who's the goofball who just dissed all us meteorologists? Hey, just because somewhat more than an inch fell, doesn't mean that none of us ever get the forecast right. Stick to football, bud!
Oh, yeah---snow bowl looks great on WFLD-DT Chicago and WQRF-DT Rockford, IL OTA.
Major props to the tech crew under VERY trying circumstances...
Oh, and AVS people told me that when you go digital, there's no more snow in the picture. What kind of crack web site is this? ;) ;) :D :D
I see the need to put the "Ball On: what yard line" due to the conditions. However, instead of using a lower third graphic I think it could be incorporated into the score bug for a cleaner look. Putting that information where the NFC Divisional logo is (where out of town scores are shown during the regular season) would leave the bottom of the screen lessed cluttered with more graphics pooping up.
Not bad, but for some reason brats don't taste as good once you get south of Missouri.
So I upgraded to Ribeye. :)I'm on the way!

I wonder if other folks observe what I observe (Mediacom cable HD signal sent to 720p Epson front projector via component video, 120" beautifully bright diagonal image)...in the past and today. What I'm talking about is a superior viewing experience on FOX's 720p NFL broadcasts, as opposed to CBS's 1080i NFL broadcasts...because of what I would call pixelation that occurs in the CBS presentations, specifically during close-up slow-motion instant replays. Anyone else out there see this?

Does your local CBS multicast? If not do they send the max bitrate for HD?
Our local CBS WREG multicasts and their HD looks terrible.

Samsung 720p front projector, Comcast HD signal via DVI, and the Packers game looked great, even in the snow.
In fact, the BCS game was the best Fox HD game I've ever seen....much better than the crap TB/Giants game.
I'm starting to believe FOX has the ability to produce the best NFL-HD, but they can't do it all the time.
WHY oh why the TB/Giants playoff game didn't get this HD attention is a mystery, however I expect today's Dallas/Giants game to be FOX's best.
Thank you

I'd gladly be a TV meteorologist.. It's the only place you can be WRONG most of the time and still keep your job...:D
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-13-08, 02:01 PM Just wanted to chime in with saying that was an awesome display yesterday. Gotta love the snow games, especially when they look so good.
Except for the video breaking up too often on my D*.

Hey! Quite blowing our cover. Oh, by the way, do you have any spare tips for my darts? I broke mine during that last winter storm... :D
