View Full Version : Grindhouse on Starz
curtishd 01-12-08, 03:22 PM So what is the deal with Starz airing Grinshouse? When I search their website I see them listed seperately BUT I also see Grindhouse and it is described as: "Two 75 minute horror movies - one about a killer car, the other a zombie story - written by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez put together as a two film features. Including fake movie trailers in between both movies 2007, R,". I hope we get it this way with the trailers and all in HD.

Both films will air separately in early March. The entire thing will be On Demand.

Both films (the unedited editions) have been available OnDemand in HD since December. I'd look forward to see the entire theatrical version, but only in HD. Considering that Starz is showing the theatrical version of GHOST RIDER on its schedule, but offers the Extended Version in HD OnDemand, I'm going to be hopeful.
curtishd 01-12-08, 07:45 PM I have Dish so no On demand for me but maybe they have the scheduled seperately BUT will air as one. This way people can tune into one or the other if they don't want to see both but they will air together. Just hoping...
curtishd 02-22-08, 04:49 PM So it looks like we will be getting Grindouse as it was in theaters with fake trailers and all at the end of March on Starz in HD. Looks like it only airs twice so get those DVR's ready.
do you need to be subscribed to starz to purchase something on-demand? because i would love to watch the uncut grindhouse again, but dont want to get Starz.
jackmay 03-31-08, 10:23 PM I have given up trying to watch either of the two movies in HD. It is so boring, boring, boring. The scratching of the picture to look like worn out film is so irritating that it makes it even less pleasurable to watch.
So much for the "artistic intention" of the directors. To me both movies are a failure. The did not entertain me. I erased them from my DVR since I doubt I will ever really watch them.
I kind of enjoyed Grindhouse. I recorded it and burned it to a DVD9 bluray. I didn't see it in theaters, only the extended editions on DVD.
richiephx 03-31-08, 10:55 PM How can anyone not like a chick with an automatic weapon for a leg?
I DVRed Planet Terror and Death Proof... I also DVRed Grindhouse. I am hoping Grindhouse is the "original" theatrical presentation. I also bought deluxe DVDs with the extended versions.
All is well, but a question.
When they aired as separate movies (and the DVD releases as well) Planet Terror was 1.78:1 and Death Proof was 2.35:1. I noted last night that the Grindhouse airing was 2.35:1 all the way through.
So now I'm wondering if I shouldn't end up keeping the separate versions AND the combined version DVRed for future viewings.
Anyone know what the original theatrical airing aspect ratio was for the two movies?

Yes you need to subscribe to the channel in order to get its OnDemand offerings .

Luckily for those of us with StarzHD OnDemand we can watch it when we want ;)

It was all 2.35:1 theatrically. Planet Terror was altered to 1.78 for home video. So I was ecstatic to see both presented in scope.

Good to know. I didn't get to see it in the theaters.. so this will be the first time I've seen it in its original presentation. That being the case, I may just end up keeping "Grindhouse" on the DVR, and ultimately delete the two separate DVRs since I own the deluxe extended DVDs.
curtishd 04-03-08, 08:28 PM Just watched the trailer and they are GREAT! Just DON'T watch them alone :)
P.S. Largo I sent you a PM.
Garrett Adams 04-03-08, 09:00 PM I never saw the Grindhouse cut but there were extras that preceded Planet Terror on Comcast. Death Proof was just the film itself. I assume the extras, including Machete amounted to the whole shebang.
