I have a question on a setup of a home system i was thinking this
if i get 7 Bose speakers yes the small ones 6 plus the center for 7.1 , and get a good Yahama Receiver 7.1 then add a velodyne Sub. Would the bose speakers be able to handle the power from the amp and not blow the speakers up ?
how many watts can those speakers handle each?
sorry for the newbie question. :)

There aren't a lot of Bose fans on this site. You can do a LOT better for the money. My suggestion is to visit the Speaker forum or Home Theater forum for some really good suggestions.

GReddy the frequency response of those cubes aren't necessarily the best - (bottom range closer to 200Hz)

If size/looks are important, look at Paradigm Cinema, Monitor Audio Radius, Anthony Gallos, Orb Audio, Mordaunt-Short Genies or KEF Eggs. In fact most speaker manufacturers nowadays make lifestyle-sized speakers to go into the living room, at significantly better price performance points than the Bose.

Plus, do justice to the 'good Yamaha receiver'

The question is not whether the speakers can handle the amp, because the power output is entirely dependent on the volume control. The question is, will the speakers play loud enough with the available amplifier power? And that depends on a lot of things.

Since you haven't yet bought the Bose speakers, I would urge you to opt for something else. Bose cubes are great for background music but not a very good choice for home theater or serious music listening.

Don't waste your money on the Yamaha if you buy Bose. Not even Yamaha can make that sh!t sound good. Buy an Onkyo 304 or something cheaper than that if you can find it because buying a Yamaha and hooking it up to Bose is like pooping on your favorite dish before you eat it. At least when you get a crappy receiver to go with Bose, it's like pooping on poop. It will still taste the same, except you didn't spend all the time and money to prepare your favorite dish.

nothins bad about it, the yamaha is the "favorite dish" in the metaphor - and attaching the boses to it is pooping on it.

Ah Bose, the choice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog..."Bose makes great speakers......FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!!!" :D

IMHO the only speaker they had that was worth a damn was the original 151 indoor-outdoor speaker with the single 4.5" 3-screw full-range driver. Acceptably mediocre audio coupled with an amazing indifference to the elements. They were great porch/deck speakers that didn't sound half bad for Bose...no wonder Bose quit making them.

I have my grandfather's late-series 201's. Thin particle-board and plastic(!) cabinet, unimpressive cheap 6.5" woofer, and a truly nasty 2" cone tweet. They sound better than their tiny cubes, but not by much. At least singers sound as though they still have their bodies...the cubes lose so much lower-midrange fundamental that singers sound like all there's left of them is a singing head, and the body has gone missing.
