I am having trouble Recording shows with my Insiginia DVD Recorder. I have Direct TV, and a DVR. I have 2 kids, a wife, and a Mother in law who all want to tape every show they wish to see. SO they tape them on the DVR and I put them onto disk so they can go off to their respective TV / DVD players and watch them.
At Least that was the plan.

I have gotten the Record Blocking Signal Detected on several different channels, but not on all movies/shows. Hallmark, Encore, Showtime all have given me problems. Old Christmas Movies, Newer Movies, movies that are 10 years old, I have had problems with all of them one time or another, some stuff records fine, others will not.

I attemped to record Directly to the DVD Recorder, No dice, I have recorded with the DVR, and tried to record later with the DVD Recorder, no dice.

My friend has the same set up (not the same equipment).. but has NEVER gotten this REcord Blocking Signal Detected.

Is there any help that can be offered to fix this problem or am i stuck.

Thanks

Some dvd recorders are more sensitive to the Copy Protection signals transmitted on various networks and shows than others. This Insiginia unit appears to be one of the sensitive ones. I'm not sure how you can circumvent it. There are various filter devices that connect between vcrs or dvd players, that block those signals, but I don't know if they'd work on a satellite receiver. If your recorder is new, check your friend and see what recorder he has, and consider exchanging yours....
Meanwhile, enter 'filter' or 'Sima' into the search box, to locate threads discussing filtering Record blocked programs.

Yes a filter should work fine. I have a Sima CT-2 and really like it. I don't believe it's still made, but you could check. It goes between the S-out of your DVR to the S-in of your DVDR.
If your friend is having no problems, you might just want to consider replacing your Insignia DVDR for one like his, or try some others. It might be cheaper than the filter. Mine was ~$100, so depending on the DVDR, that might just be the cheaper route.

Is the DVR a DirecTV tuner/DVR?
I am wondering if part of the problem is the DVR. If you have a newer DirecTV DVR than your friend, maybe the new ones pass DO NOT COPY signals that the older ones did not. The content provider probably figures that DVRs are recording the content, so they have DirecTV set them to prevent re-recording. The DVR probably passes the signal through even if you don't actually record on it, on the assumption that if you wanted the program recorded you would use the DVR.

If you can find a friend with just a receiver (no DVR), you could see if your recorder works with that set-up.
