I have a motorola DVR and HD-A3 Toshibia hooked up to my 50 inch plasma. I have about a 6 foot run I need to do with no in wall installation. I went to monoprice and there are so many types of HDMI cables I have no idea what to get. They talk about 1.3a Cat. 2 CL2 certifiied. Can someone give me an education as to what that means, what do you think would work for my situation and will the hdmi cable really improve the PQ? I am not impressed with watching the HD DVDs on the HD-A3 however I have my plasma still set in break in mode settings so that might have something to do with the poor PQ or my DVD is not set correct. I have no clue at this point.

you want these (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3992&seq=1&format=2)...
They talk about 1.3a Cat. 2 CL2 certifiied. Can someone give me an education as to what that meansCL2 is an external sheathing to protect the cable when installed in a wall. You don't need it but it doesn't do any harm except the cable is stiffer.
HDMI 1.3 is a future spec and there is no equipment supporting it at the moment. You don't need it but it doesn't do any harm.will the hdmi cable really improve the PQ? Compared to what?!

umm... yea, you can probably anticipate improvement using hdmi instead of composite...
Did anyone read that all the major studios are getting out of the HD DVD format and going strictly to Blue Ray. Does anyone know if Blue Ray will play HD DVD format on their machines. I think Blue Ray will upcovert SD but was wondering if they will also upcovert HD DVD format DVDs? Anyone have an answer?
will the hdmi cable really improve the PQ [over the] red, white and yellow cords I currently have hooked up to this system.
Yeah, 'bout a million per cent.
To begin with, you have never actually seen "HDTV" using that type of connection!

Do I need the cables that have the 1.3a, cat. 2, CL2 certified?
Do I need the cables that have the 1.3a, cat. 2, CL2 certified? I believe I already answered that question back in post #3 to this thread. ccotenj (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/member.php?u=7493602) recommended the appropriate cable back in message #2 !
Did anyone read that all the major studios are getting out of the HD DVD format and going strictly to Blue Ray.Not all the studios! Universal and Paramount have very significant HD-DVD catalogs. Does anyone know if Blue Ray will play HD DVD format on their machines.Yes we know and the answer is No!
You can get combo players which play both.
