so now there are no records by the teams ??....im so confused !!
After last week's discussion about the proper format for records I figured to leave them out this week. The teams are in the conference championship games, outside of the Patriots attempt to go undefeated the team's win-loss records are really meaningless at this point. And if someone was not aware that the Patriots have not loss yet, then they are living under a rock somewhere and I do not think a few posts at AVS is going to help them.
lol who cares about records anyway, jeez.
Go Giants
If you're still playing then you're undefeated in the playoffs and that's all that matters. What you did in the regular season has no bearing on what happens now. Just ask the Cowboys.

however:
super bowl fact - all 41 super bowls had at least 1 of the participants have the best regular season conference record.
note: tiebreakers not included.

The Pats will make that 42, but not since 1993 have both #1 seeds made the SB. Also, up until yesterday the #1 seed in the NFC had never lost in the divisional round since the playoffs were expanded to 6 teams per conference. So streaks, and records, are made to be broken.

Hell yeah. I wish it were sunday already. So can't wait for this game. I don't think I sat down the entire 4th quarter yesterday.
That clip of T.O. crying last night was priceless. Nobody throws their QB under the bus more than him, and he was crying about not doing it to Romo. That guy cracks me up. Maybe he should have just played the 2nd half yesterday, he didn't have it in him for a full 60 minutes:)

Did TO play yesterday? I didn't see him in the second half ;)
By the way........ha ha ha (http://youtube.com/watch?v=21KLynZRnc4)

Wade Phillips has now set a new standard for futility. Not only is he winless in the playoffs (0-4), but he's been on the team with the #1 seed two consecutive years and that team has lost in the first playoff game played both times (2006 Chargers as defensive coordinator and 2007 Cowboys as head coach).
humdinger70 01-14-08, 04:55 PM San Diego Chargers GM A.J. Smith is looking more and more like a genius every day! His decisions have been like Bobby Beathard in his prime with the Washington Redskins (not the BB who made those bad draft day decisions when he was Chargers GM).
TravelFan1 01-14-08, 05:10 PM humdinger, I sincerely will be rooting for your SuperChargers to at least put a fight with the Pats... If they put a fight like Jax did, that will be fine.
Re the G-men, we'll be playing with house money, which is great! Now, let's see if Eli can take care of his only TBD: Play well in the cold weather.
DJ Matt 01-14-08, 07:19 PM Its going to be freaking cold as hell in Green Bay for the game on Sunday. Were looking at temps in the lower single digits at kick off.

Looks like Foxboro is not going to be much better with Highs in the low teens and wind chills well below zero !

1939 Packers 27-0
1944 Packers 14-7
1961 Packers 37-0

That's what I'm hoping for. The Eli I have grown to love in cold weather.

I agree sitting in my recliner with the fireplace cranking with plenty of cold beer's while my wife and her friend freeze their asses off at the Pats game.
GO Packers! 1st NFC Title game since '97, would have never thought we would be talking about a Giants vs. Packers NFC Title game at the beginning of the year!

When I was at the Giants vs Packers game in week two, and the Giants looked like crap, I thought 5-11 would be a good season for them. I certainly didn't think I was watching a preview of the NFC Championship game.

My thoughts exactly. I think they are a better team now than week 2, but realistically, to play at Lambau against Favre in an NFC championship game is a tall order. If the Giants lose, I would not be totally surprised, but I'm hoping that they do win. They've been great on the road and their defense is doing a great job, so we'll see.
steverobertson 01-17-08, 11:11 AM Go Giants I don't want to hear Brett Favre stories for 2 weeks as I think he is the most overrated athelete in my lifetime in any sport.
dmedina 01-17-08, 11:59 AM Ah but let us compare Brett Favre (16 yrs) to another HOF QB, Dan Marino (17 yrs)
[courtesy of pro-football-reference.com]
In Brett Favre's 16 year career
8 of them he posted a 90+ QB rating
In 3 of them he posted a 80+ QB rating
And in 5 of them his rating was in the low to mid 70s.
In Dan Marino's 17 year career
5 of them he posted a 90+ QB rating
10 of them he posted a 80+ QB rating
And in 2 of them he posted a sub 80 QB rating
Now here's the career passing yards for each:
Favre: 61657 in 16 yrs
Marino: 61361 in 17 years
We could do career tds/ints as well
Marino: 420tds, 252 ints
Favre: 442tds, 288 ints
it's about the same!
Gmichael2 01-17-08, 12:18 PM I like Brett. I think he's been a class act and a great QB over the years. No doubt that he'll be in the HOF the first time his name comes up to vote on. But I still have to pull for the Giants. May they pull out another upset.
GO JINTS!

Favre's got a ring.
Marino's got, uh, SlimFast commercials?

The Pats game could be a blowout, but the GB/NYG game looks like it could be a classic. Don't miss that one.

I don't think that Chargers will beat them THAT bad.
GB/NYG will at least be a classic in name sake. It's been a long time but they've hashed it out a few times years ago.

Nutrisystem. He lost 22 pounds.;)

steverobertson 01-17-08, 01:54 PM Those are great comparrison stats between the two of them but the difference being is I don't have Marino's name thrown at me with every football show I watch. I am not saying he wasn't a a very good QB but I don't think the pub he receives matches his performance. I just think for whatever reason the media falls all over themselves with this guy and I don't get it.
mikepier 01-17-08, 06:56 PM I think both QB's are great in their own ways. You can't compare stats, but rather consistency and success through their careers.
I was at the famous ( or infamous in my case) "fake spike" MIA/NYJ game at the Meadowlands in Nov 1994, and I still can't get over that play.
All I know is NY was leading 24-6 in the 3rd quarter, then next thing I know Mia won 28-24.
txredneckbud 01-18-08, 07:36 AM This is all just a bad dream and my dallas boys did not lose.
CPanther95 01-18-08, 08:01 AM Funny, I wake up each morning and have to pinch myself.
Been a great week. :)

Keep telling yourself that and maybe it will be true. As George Costanza said, 'if you believe it is true then it is'
Go Giants :D
CPanther95 01-18-08, 08:36 AM I think 12 years qualifies as a coma, not a dream. :D
properbostonian 01-18-08, 08:55 AM Let's go Patriots!!!!!!!!
I predict a much closer game. The spread is shocking to me. The Chargers are a great team, even though some of their great players are nicked up. Also, it's going to be cold and windy. Even though the running game is better, the weather conditions are not ideal for a prolific passing team.
Patriots: 24
Chargers: 20
But not as cold as Green Bay. Yikes. Around zero at game time. The wind chill is going to be nasty. However, I'm sticking with the Giants. They were impressive against the Patriots in week 17 and continue to play well.
Giants: 21
Pack: 17

actually his quote was "It's not a lie if you believe it."
mikepier 01-19-08, 11:10 AM Intersesting stat. Out of the 4 remaining teams, only the Giants are undefeated in conference championship games, 3-0. Hopefully they'll make it 4-0.
Pats 5-1
SD 1-2
GB 2-1

And this means?
CPanther95 01-19-08, 01:18 PM It means there are statistics to show whatever you want to see.
If you think team results from the 80s and 90s are a statistical indicator of how the team will do this weekend.... then.. well... you're a sports fan :p;)
E-A-G-L-E-S 01-19-08, 02:00 PM Let's go Pack!
scottnsturbridge 01-19-08, 08:00 PM My neighbor came over today and said he had seven tickets to Pat's game and had one extra one. asked me if I wanted to go, I said no I will be sitting in my recliner couch watching it on my 50px50!!!

What are you nuts? I love my HD too, but there is nothing like being there. What are you going to do when the Pats score, high five the cat?
Kingcarcas 01-19-08, 09:19 PM ^I've never been to an NFL game, but i kind of see where he is coming from. When you're there you only get one view, where as on TV you're up close to the action on every play and the camera zooms into everything.

Do you really mean that or are you just hyping them up as a joke because you know Rivers is hurt, like my bandwagon Pats fan brother? :p

Even though I have a 57" DLP, there is no comparison to actually being at the game. It's a whole new experience.
You just have to remember, if your going to drink, relieve yourself before the game, or during the game, not at halftime, otherwise you'll be sorry.:(
Or better yet don't drink at all ( yeah, right).

Hell I would rather watch the game on a 27inch standard definition tv than going there and freezing my ass off. I did the same thing with a Seachicken game this year. I have been to games and I will take my couch over being there every time. Now Baseball or Hockey and I am there, but football is more entertaining in my living room.
