Looking to set up home theater. While this will certainly not be top of the line, just looking for something to get going. TV is 1998 model, and don't plan on buying new, at least for now. I realize this limits certain areas, but that does not concern me, I hope :D. Any comments on whether this configuration makes sense, and is adaptable, would be most appreciated.

Sony kv-35s40 (1998 tube tv, good picture)
Klipsch-Quintet SL 5-Piece Home Theater Speaker System + 12'' subwoofer
Yamaha HTR-6030BL 5.1-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver
Philips DVP3140 Compact DVD Player

Rookie

You can set up a great theater with a nice 35" TV. I had one that size for a while. Sounds like you have a good sound setup. Impress them with that. I did notice a difference in the picture (color mainly) when I used component video cables. Can't remember if your TV has component or just s-video.

Use the highest quality connections available and enjoy it. When you can afford to upgrade go for it.

I doubt that truer words have ever been spoken here.

We are all obsessed with upgrading -- and that can be a little scary for others who aren't quite as "nuts."
