I have the Pioneer DV-400V. The manual states..."Switch on Virtual Surround to enjoy realistic surround sound effects from just two speakers."

Is anyone using virtual surround? I have the dv-400v connected to my Onkyo tx-sr304, via digi coax, which powers a 2.1 system. would it be worth it for me to turn on Virtual Surround? Not really sure how much it can really do for a 2.1 system.

Many TVs and receivers offer some sort of processing to create an expanded ambience or faux surround sound from just the front speakers. I've never particularly like the effects but some do. Why not just try it out?:)

I agree. Give it a try. Some processors do it better than others. I suspect that you may want to use it with movies, but turn it off for music.

This is a great explanation. I have a pioneer and their decoder is one of the better ones I've heard. But as the article explains, it has its drawbacks.

Uh, is there some impediment to your hitting the button and trying it out and seeing what you think...?

But he wants to make certain he listens to his movies the "proper" AVS Forum way. Not the way that might sound best. :)

Well, my personal opinion is that I don't like those virtual things, I'd rather have a real surround system, but lacking that, leave it in regular stereo, PARTICULARLY with music. But that's just me, and there are many people who very much like faux surround and they should use it if they like it by all means.
