Anyone ever done this using heavy duty L Brackets and staining a nice piece of wood? I'd also like to make a floating shelf by using L-brackets mounted to studs to hold my home theater pc, receiver, and xbox 360... Shelf stuff would be to the right of the TV, all cables wrapped and tied neatly.

TV would be a Mits WD-65734 (65"). Weight is approx 78 lbs, about 16" deep.

i would think you'd have a hard time getting any L bracket to hold that kind of weight without any triangulation for extra support.

Was thinking of using something like this though more asthetically pleasing.

i would use wood pieces cut in traingles that match the shelf as the supports. much much better than anything metal.

if it's possible, why not just mount the TV directly to the wall?
