View Full Version : Is 1.3 necessary here?

Hi folks, I have a couple of questions about my barebones set up.

I have a Samsung LCD hooked up to a PS3, Upconverter DVD player, and a cable box. I was looking into some HDMI cables for my PS3. I am not running through a wall and my PS3 is within 3-6 feet of my TV. I'm aware that with short distances, high-end cables are not really necessary, but I get the impression that that with gaming, signal reception should be as quick as possible. I was wondering if it really mattered for gaming, even if it was with a super-short cable?

On a side note, I have been having some lip-syncing and ghosting issues when watching DVDs and was wondering if a 1.3 would eliminate those issues, as well.

Thanks for the help. This is a great community you all have here.

Just about any HDMI cable ever made should work at 3-6 feet. :) You're lip sync and ghosting has nothing to do with the HDMI cable and most likely anything HDMI related.

Is that to also say that it would work as good as anything else? I mean, I wouldn't notice a difference between cable 1.x vs. cable 1.3 at that length?

And the ghosting is a result of my TV, then? I'm just perplexed because it doesn't seem to do it when watching cable or gaming, just DVDs. And at the time, only my DVD player uses an HDMI cable, that's why I was led to that conclusion.

Thanks again.

yup, at that length, any cable will be just as good as any other...

i'd suspect the dvd player...

That cleared it up for me. Thanks again!
