Hi,

I'm in Australia and I'm trying to find something that's equivalent to Linacoustic.

I have found place that sells a product called acoustisorb and I was wondering if the sound experts could help me pick what is likely to be the best fit for treating my room.

I'm looking to do the screen wall and first reflection points.

Here is the data on the 3 types of acoustisorb they have on offer:

AcoustiSorb 1 has the following sound absorption coefficients when tested to AS1045 by the Reverberation method:

Frequencies 125 250 500 1000 2000 NRC
Plain 25mm 0.12 0.39 0.65 0.76 0.83 0.65
Plain 50mm 0.28 0.60 0.83 0.91 0.91 0.80

AcoustiSorb 2 has the following sound absorption coefficients when tested to AS1045 by the Reverberation method:

Frequencies 125 250 500 1000 2000 NRC
Plain 25mm 0.13 0.42 0.71 0.89 0.93 0.75
Plain 50mm 0.28 0.65 0.95 1.06 0.99 0.90
Perf Foil 50mm 0.37 0.75 1.07 1.08 0.94 0.95

AcoustiSorb 3 has the following sound absorption coefficients when tested to AS1045 by the Reverberation method:

Frequencies 125 250 500 1000 2000 NRC
Plain 25mm 0.40 0.70 0.91 0.95 0.94 0.85
Perf Foil 50mm 0.46 0.78 1.05 1.06 0.95 0.90

Thanks in advance.

Simon

Hello Simon,
Check out Bob Gold's site. It has quite a few different types of rolled fiberglass and the compressed fiberglass boards. You'll be able to compare.

Thanks for the link Jeff. Very handy!

I've put the Insulco and CSR (Australian) tables into an excel spreadsheet so that I can get excel to compare the values at each frequency to the linacoustic. Rather than compare exact values (of which a match is pretty unlikely) I have a range cell that can be set. So when comparing to linacoustic it will check the value, plus or minus the range I set.

So for example Linacoustic's 125hz is 0.08 so I can say set the range to 0.05 and if the one i'm comparing it to is within 0.03 and 0.13 it indicates a match.

Can people suggest what would be a good range to compare against? Would a 0.05 value mean a 5% difference in absorption at that frequency? would a 5% difference be considered large?

Cheers,

Simon

For what it's worth, I used a product called CertainTeed UltraDuct Gold which came in 1-inch thick sheets that were 4-feet by 8-feet. This is very close to the standard 1inch Linacoustic. It worked out great.

Did you use that on both the screen wall and first reflection points?

Yes, my front wall, which is approx 1m behind the screen wall is treated from floor to ceiling. The side and rear walls are bottom only all the way around. Since it came in rigid sheets, all I had to do is screw it to the existing drywall. It's also easy to cut with a razor knife.
