Warner Bros. will release "I am Legend" on DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray.
The 2 disc DVD and Blu-ray release will arrive on March 18th. The HD DVD will follow on April 8th.
Extras include a "Alternative Theatrical Version with a Controversial Ending" as the studio puts.
haulin oats 01-15-08, 06:08 PM Will they have the same encode, or will the Blu Ray version have a higher bitrate one?
Patsfan123 01-15-08, 06:13 PM Will they have the same encode, or will the Blu Ray version have a higher bitrate one?
Same.. They will wait until they stop releasing HD DVDs before they have blu optimized encodes.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully WB will give us a lossless audio track.
Will they have the same encode, or will the Blu Ray version have a higher bitrate one?
My guess is that since this will also be an HD DVD release both will use the same video encode. Hopefully I'm wrong.
haulin oats 01-15-08, 06:20 PM being that I'm format neutral, it doesn't matter to me which copy I buy. However, if the HD DVD version has anything more than the blu ray version, I'll wait for that. Otherwise I'll pick up the blu version.
This better freakin' have a PCM or TrueHD track! If so, can't wait! :D
wow_factor 01-15-08, 08:18 PM Hmm, I wonder which version will be released. I recall the IMAX version had a few extra minutes of runtime.
IMAX: 114 minutes.
Non-IMAX: 101 minutes.
PS34VER 01-15-08, 08:22 PM I cannot wait! I absoultely loved this movie in theatres and think it will look very good in Blu! :D
Brian81 01-15-08, 08:29 PM Same.. They will wait until they stop releasing HD DVDs before they have blu optimized encodes.
I wouldn't hold my breath for Blu optimized encodes. Fox releases MPEG2 at 18Mbps and as far as Warner goes, they release those 1080i vertically filtered or whatever releases. Yes, BD has the capability of higher bitrates, but do studios even care enough to do things like this?
Brian81 01-15-08, 08:33 PM Weren't those the catalog titles?
This is a day and date (well, the BD is), I don't think we will see that.
The 1080i ones were catalog titles. My point was is that if they really cared about quality, they would have done them over before releasing them, instead of taking the easy and cheap way out.
lgans316 01-15-08, 09:14 PM I hope that Warner puts LOSSLESS audio tracks.
I too agree that their won't be a BD specific encode. I was holding my breath hoping that this would be the first native BD encode, but alas it won't happen. I can't wait for the first Warner high bit encode BD movie. I wonder what it will be? Hopefully something big.
That date is right around the corner...
kbasanti 01-15-08, 10:05 PM Hmm, I wonder which version will be released. I recall the IMAX version had a few extra minutes of runtime.
IMAX: 114 minutes.
Non-IMAX: 101 minutes.
The IMAX version had the footage of The Dark Knight before the movie.
Regular theaters did not get that.
tkbryant 01-15-08, 11:44 PM You can pretty much bet this puppy will have a TrueHD or PCM audio track. it's one of their high profile titles for 08.
Filipinoyakuza 01-16-08, 02:41 PM So it looks like March will be Will Smith BD month:

robertc88 01-17-08, 10:10 AM I'm curious how it will look and sound on BD. I don't know that I liked the content enough for replay value down the road to buy it so probably just a rental for me when released. Maybe it will grow on me after another viewing, we all know how that works! :)
No, I didn't read the spoilers. I want to be surprised when I rent it.
EyeCrave 01-23-08, 04:17 PM Blu-ray fans rejoice. It looks as though the BD version is getting more content than its HD DVD counterpart this round.

domingos1965 01-27-08, 08:12 AM is it up for pre order?
yourgrandma 01-27-08, 01:13 PM I've made it a point to only see movies on IMAX, and this one was pretty sweet, looking forward to the BD. That scene from Batman confused just about everyone in the theater. Looked fantastic, though.
PooperScooper 01-27-08, 02:48 PM Let's wait for the disc. Movie discussion takes place in the Movies discussion forum.
