View Full Version : Case replacement experience - Disney vs. Fox
valkyrie 01-16-08, 03:03 PM I thought I'd share a recent experience with trying to get a replacement Blu-Ray case for Disney and Fox. I recently had two case get manged. The first was a Disney case in which I opened the top seal, reached in to grab the plastic and yanked to pull it off the case, not realizing I also grabbed the insert protective cover and pull both off at once. Now, a rubber band is holding my cover art on the case. The second is a Fox disc that I have had for a few months in which I've opened and closed the little flap so many times, it now won't stay shut and my case keeps popping open. Anyway, I thought I'd try much luck at "customer service" at the two companies and see if I could get some help. I sent emails to both Disney and Fox, describing the above issues.
Note: I realize that the Disney case is probably my own fault, but I firmly believe the Fox flap case is a manufacturing defect.
Both companies promptly returned my emails (within a few days). Disney provided me with a 1-800 number as they wanted more information on my issue and wanted to "address the problem." I called the number, a very kind and warm woman greeted me and said she would replace the case no problem, wanted to know if the artwork was also damaged, and would get a replacement out to me in a matter of days. Fantastic customer support, I was very impressed and am encouraged to buy more Disney products.
Fox...was a different story. I received a simple email which said "we do not replace packaging or artwork." When I pressed them on it with a follow-up email, they again responeded tersely with "the product should have been sealed when purchased and the case should have been closed properly." They took no interest in my problem and could care less about any issue I had. I was greatly disappointed and will likely keep this in mind when buying future Blu-Ray's. I think those cases are terrible, particularly given the price premium fox is charging for new and catalog releases.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with a company that I feel truly appreciates their customers and one that clearly does not.
Anyone else have better luck with Fox?
DigitalFirefly 01-16-08, 03:14 PM What's the number for Disney? My Pirates 3 case was broken when I got it.
Brian81 01-16-08, 03:16 PM I actually returned one title (Flags of our Fathers) because of a smashed case. Didn't open it, but noticed when I got home that the top and back were smashed. Felt a little dumb saying to the customer service worker at BB that I was exchanging it because of a damaged case, but I thought about the inconvenience I would have to go through to get a replacement case at this point.
valkyrie 01-16-08, 03:20 PM Disney's phone: 800-477-2811
opterasis 01-16-08, 03:21 PM My Die Hard box set case had several cracks in it when I opened it and was considering contacting Fox about a replacement, guess I won't bother now.
VXXJesterXXV 01-16-08, 03:31 PM On the cases with the little flaps you shouldn't be opening and closing the flap numerous times. After you open it the first time it folds into the case and locks in place. I actually prefer those cases over the ones without the flap. The flap cases tend to have less stickers sealing the cases than those without.
That said Fox still should have taken care of you. I'm not surprised they didn't all things considered, but they really should have.

Anyone have a phone number for Warner? The case for HP5 broke the first time I tried to close it.

Seriously? Wow...I'll have to look at that. I really though the cases were just a POS. I was disappointed with the "service," all the same. It was clearly a tone of 'we don't care about your problem,' the exact OPPOSITE feeling I had with Disney, who twice now (the case issue, and the PoTC replacement disc) has given me outstanding customer service.

Whoa. I did not know this either. I'm going to have to try this also.
clear31 01-16-08, 04:55 PM sometimes the cases with the flap even ship to me directly from amazon locked into place. I like it better so i do them to all of my cases that have it

it's too bad that the Fox films have such good picture and sound.
Sony style cases definently beat those Warner type.

BD cases at Sleevetown have been backordered for well over a month, sadly.

you can get them at Newegg for about the same price.
mixtapem 01-16-08, 05:45 PM Anybody found a site with the Fox/Warner replacement cases?

www.yesbuy.net has them
BaronVH 01-16-08, 06:41 PM Having been to Walt Disney World with my family twice I am not surprised. We are going back in the fall. Disney has the best customer service of any company on the globe. Having them in the BD camp was a major victory.

Thank you, I never realized that. I've been cursing at those flaps and tempted to tear them off, but now I've folded all mine.

The description says these Blu-ray cases doesn't have the Blu-ray logo on them.

The ones at Newegg don't have logos either. I'm still hoping some 2-disc cases will be made available for sale, so I can make SEs by including the DVDs of titles with dropped extras.
I'm guessing they aren't officially licensed, so they don't have the logo.
lgans316 01-16-08, 08:50 PM The quality of the casing used at present is horrible. I have many titles sitting inside broken cases. The Blu-ray logo gets easily peeled off while removing the security tab.

Fox has now switched to the "Sony-type" since early December. "Live Free or Die Hard" had the old "Warner-type" case, while "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "The Simpsons Movie" have the new "Sony" case. Now the problem is going to be getting these different cases to match. It's not just the embossed logo but the color as well (the Sony cases seem more turquoise than the WB cases).
obispo21 01-17-08, 12:16 AM I like the Warner (old Fox) cases *alot* more than the Sony / Disney cases. That "engraved" BD logo is just hideous.
Disney does really have good replacement service. Remember they will even replace discs that you damaged yourself for a small fee. I guess that's one of the consumer benefits of a company highly focused on child/family friendliness.
Something to note... all my Disney releases have used the Sony-style cases *except* Pirates of the Caribbean 3 - that one uses a Warner style 2-disc case. Weird. Much as I like the Warner cases better, I wish they'd keep the series uniform.
grommet 01-17-08, 12:21 AM The Blu-ray logo gets easily peeled off while removing the security tab.The newer security stickers are notched to exclude the printed logo now, FYI.
Faceless Rebel 01-17-08, 01:04 AM I found it funny that they didn't want to spend the money to print the Blu-ray logo in a way such that the top security sticker doesn't rip the logo off when you take it off to open the movie.
I was going to order some cases myself from Sleevetown.com but I don't know why they are permanently backordered on the Blu-ray cases. Was there a run on them or something?
