I don't much care for the universal remotes we can get here stateside. Either they're big and bulky, lack backlighting, or are prohibitively expensive (Logitech 1000, Pronto, etc). I've found a few units that you can get in the UK, look really nice, are a nice size, and seem to have all the functionality I need. And they cost half what the Pronto or Logitech would cost. You can see pictures here (http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=FAQ&ModuleNo=221006&doy=16m1#faq) and here (http://www.lektropacks.com/view_product_standard.php?product=68&department=1&sub1=11&show=11).
Has anyone used either of these, or have experience importing things from the U.K.? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know about the second one you linked to, but the first one is an old first generation Kameleon remote, and the US model most like that one would be the Radio Shack 15-2133 Kameleon remote (http://www.remotecentral.com/152133/), but that's been discontinued long time ago. You may find later versions of Kameleon remotes like URC-9960 or URC-6960 from One for All in some places, but I think those are somewhat old as well. There's also the current European models, like the URC-8308 (http://www.oneforall-int.com/?pag=39&prodnr=96).
They may look neat, but I personally don't think they are that useful. I had bought the URC-6690 (hybrid Kameleon) just to see what Kameleon remotes are like. They are much cheaper than the other remotes you mention because they are not the same type of remote. The screen buttons are pre-drawn and selectively lit over fixed bubble buttons, not customizable like Pronto. They have the disadvantage of screen remotes (you can't navigate the remote by touch), with none of the advantage of them (you can't really customize the screen and layout). They use built in database of devices and are not PC programmable, although some are upgradeable using sound files).
However, some people like the look of the Kameleon, and if you decide to get one, you can make them more useful by getting a JP1 cable (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/index.php) (or a JP1.x cable, depending on the model). JP1 cable and applications allow you to connect the remote to a PC to program the keys on the PC to upload to the remote, add new devices to control and even add new features. It's a reverse engineering effort, so you're not going to get support for that from the manufacturer, but people are very helpful over at the JP1 site. Even with the JP1 cable, however, some models of Kameleon has a disadvantage over the hard button JP1 remotes because some of them have to be modified to create a port the JP1 cable can connect to.
Thanks for the info... my needs are fairly modest. As long as it can learn from my oddball B&K remote, I'd be happy as a clam.
