Thank you romeo_214 01-18-08, 02:45 PM Hi, I'm also interested on that info.. I've managed to get a hack, but it does not work for me.. Do you want me to send it to you and try if it works for you?? imjay 01-18-08, 05:37 PM I'm not sure how serious forum management is round these parts and I really don't understand why it is but they seem to take a very dim view of anyone using a term like "hack" or otherwise sharing creative personal intervention with regard to software or firmware. Maybe some one will explain why. I assumed a lot of their revenue from ads and manufacturers might be threatened by a more open thought sharing environment. wmcclain 01-18-08, 06:15 PM I'm not sure how serious forum management is round these parts and I really don't understand why it is but they seem to take a very dim view of anyone using a term like "hack" or otherwise sharing creative personal intervention with regard to software or firmware. I've never seen restrictions on discussions of region-code hacks. What is not allowed is how-tos of illegal acts, such as DVD ripping. -Bill imjay 01-18-08, 07:48 PM Sorry if I caused a veer off topic. Not my intent. As info Ripping references transcoding vob files to their base format which is mpeg2 and there are many free and PERFECTLY LEGAL ripping utilities available online to let folk "rip" or transcode their home movie dvd vob files back to mpeg2 which is not an illegal act. Decrypting copy protection from commercially produced vob files is an illegal act but I am not and don't care to be a legal beagle. To some discussing the academics of processes is interesting and not the illegal act itself and there are so many open expression forums online that obviously sharing the concepts is an illegal act like an individual making an action decision. YIKES - I've never attempted to post illegal processes to tempt the weak. I just asked why the restrictions to a free flow of ideas? Thanks romeo_214 01-21-08, 02:01 AM I tried this with my DV-SP405 and it didn't work for me.. It did all that it was supposed to do, it even went to standby mode, but no region free what so ever.. I'm really curious if it works for you, please keep me posted Region Free ---- Using the RC-698DV remote that came with the DV-SP405----- 1) Press HOME MENU on the remote control (SETUP). 2) Go to INITIAL SETTING option and then the press ENTER button on the remote 3) Highlight OPTION and then press DISPLAY button on the remote. 4) The Firmware and region code (1 in this case) will be displayed. 5) Using the remote, press the 3690 numbers 5) The machine will go to stand by mode ------------- That's it, all of this happened but no region free for me, hope that this works for you Regards, CarlU 01-23-08, 02:31 AM Thank you, I tried it out as you said, it went on stand by but still the region stayed at region 1. Where did you get hold of your info? romeo_214 01-23-08, 11:37 PM A friend passed it to me... He also told me that the region and firmware on the menu display would not change, only that it would be able to play all the region DVD's.. Have you tried them already?? aeabarca 01-24-08, 09:54 AM Did it work ? anyone can confirm if this procedure works renevantil 04-28-08, 04:16 PM Hi, i have a DV-SP405 and I tried the solution with the 3690 numbers and it works for me. Mine is a region code 2 player After doing this it still says region code 2 but it will play region code 1 dvd's now !!! Cheers earsjr 05-28-08, 05:07 PM mine was originally Region 1, and this procedure did NOT work for me. like a previous post mentioned, it went into standby but still will not play anything other than Region 1. i've read in the other places that some Onkyo's can be flashed with a Pioneer firmware, or firmware available from retailers on a CD... has anyone tried something along these lines? rpabech 06-20-08, 09:48 PM I just UNLOCKED my player. This is how I did it: 1 – I notice that the Onkyo looked a lot like the Pioneer DV400 internally (the circuits are all the same, except the USB connection of the Pioneer). 2 – I Downloaded the Pioneer DV400 hacked Firmware from pioneerfaq.info website (do not use the DV410, it is not the same circuit board) 3 – I Installed the Firmware in my Onkyo DV-SP405 (it takes 3 minutes to complete. Do not play with RC neither the DVD itself during this process.) 4 – I Turned off and on the player 5 – I reprogram my Receiver Remote Control to work as a Pioneer RC (code: 0571). 6 – Press Enter Key in Receiver RC for 5 seconds. The DVD will be turned off automatically. 7 – The Player is now UNLOCKED The only drawback is that the original DVD RC will not work anymore, but for me, this is a unimportant drawback, because I do have the receiver universal RC. Also, you will see a red Pioneer logo instead of the original Onkyo logo, but who cares!!!! I hope I can help someone else with this. I was a little afraid of doing this, but it worked perfecly. I bought this player in US (Region 1) and I live in Brasil (Region 4). So now I can start renting movies again! :) Ricardo Abech steijntjes 11-15-08, 08:39 PM Ricardo, I like you live in Brazil and own a SP405 player (region 1) that I want to unlock for similar reason. I tried to follow your recommend steps but did not succeed thusfar. So, I downloaded a file from the Pioneerfaq site called YGB7328I.BIN and burned that on a CD-R that I named PIONEER. I insert the disk in my DVD player yet apperently nothing happens, also not after pressing PLAY on the player. The LCD panel on the player states 1 0.00. On my TV continues appearing the ONKYO in blue. I also reprogrammed my receiver RC for the DVD setting. Why do I have to press for 5 seconds the Enter key of the receiver? Nothing happens, please help. Obrigado! Robert rzegan 07-25-09, 11:58 AM I just unlocked my onkyo SP 405 as follows: Turn on dvd player Go to setup Select Initial setting Move cursor down to Options but do not press enter on your DVD remote (just underlay it) Then press display button on DVD remote When region code information is shown on screen Put in the number 3690 on your DVD remote The dvd player will automatically switch off When restarting it is all regions and working fine.
