Hello,
I have recently purchased a set of PSB Image series speakers that are maple. I of course would rather have them black. I remember hearing about someone actually wrapping them in black felt or velvet. Is this a better course of action than trying to paint them?
Thanks in advance

Well, you wouldn't be permanently altering the finish of the speaker by using some velvet. I have satin black speakers, and they are still visible during viewing.
Best solution is to put the speakers behind an acoustically transparent screen, or just behind a "false wall" of black acoustically transparent cloth.
Otherwise, I'd try draping some velvet over the top of them to help them disappear when the lights go out.

Because I wish to have my speakers totally disappear durig movies (no light reflected on them) I will be wrapping them in velvet. Tests show it sure works for making them invisible during a movie and I think if well done they will even look pretty cool.

If they look like this, your biggest problem is going to be those front baffles. Spray paint maybe.

Is there any acoustic reason to not wrap a speaker in velvet? I was thinking I might spay glue my leftover velvet on my L/R where I'm currently getting reflections, the speakers are already black, but not super-fidelio black and I'd like to really darken them. Resale value isn't a concern, so gluing doesn't bother me if it won't impact the sound.

As long as you don't cover up any of the sound producing parts (tweeters, woofers, or ports) I think you should be just fine. It doesn't seem that you care all that much about aesthetics so have at it!

Similar question:
I am looking to wrap my speakers in acoustically transparent black hole material. Any suggestions on where to look for this. I also am looking for speakers to not be visable, and want to wrap every inch of the speaker....after I take the front plate thingee off of them :)
Ooops, found a link. Unless there is a better option, I will try this place:
