So.. I finnaly took the plunge and after a lot of reading up and thought, decided to put hard earned bucks into a AVR 987 from Denon, A 12 inch Sub from polk Audio and a set of brand new Monitor seven series speakers from Paradigm.

I have a philips hd upconvert dvd player connected by a coaxial monster cable to the digital in of the receiver.

The sound though crystal clear leaves a lot to be desired in fullness and richness.

My speakers are set to LARGE and the receiver is set to LFE+Main.

Mybe I am being too picky, but the sound just does not match up to my old nakamichi amplifier with a built in tape deck.

The vocals sound compressed, though the bass is full and distortion free.

I have set the L/R speakers to +6 and play the music mainly in Direct mode or CD Stereo.

Please help me as sometimes I think my 50 buck logitech speakers with a small sub connected to my computer sound much better.

A) doesn't sound like you've calibrated the sub to the speakers
B) you should be running the speakers as SMALL, not LARGE
C) you are finally hearing low distortion accurate audio....

Issue resolved

Hi rynberg...

Thanks for the quick reply. Today i took my speakers back to the dealer where we tested them against the floor model. One tweeter was out dou to a faulty connection. They sounded way too bright but with much richer audio. I swapped for the broken in floor model, and my gosh...what a difference it has made. Have been grinning like an idiot all evening.
Moral of the story : If in doubt, never hesitate contact your dealer....
