View Full Version : Finally! My Blockbuster is finally stocking Blu-ray...
xolan99 01-17-08, 02:34 PM So I was excited last year when I heard Blockbuster would start stocking Blu-ray in their stores.
The problem is that I live in Manhattan in the Times Square area and my local Blockbuster is small (compared to stores that I remember seeing in Atlanta where I used to live.) The manager told me back in July that they weren't going to be stocking Blu-ray anytime soon.
But last week I noticed that some shelf space had been cleared and I was crossing my fingers. Sure enough, I went back last night and Blu-ray discs were finally on the shelf.
Unfortuantely though a majority of the titles they had were old catalogue titles that I have received through the mail (ie. no 'Shoot Em Up', 'Good Luck Chuck', etc...)
Still, though, I'm finally glad it's expanded to my local store.
iceperson 01-17-08, 03:28 PM nice. isn't there some place online where you can see which stores in an area stock them?

There is, but you might want to cut and paste as this is a tough one:
blockbuster.com!!!
;)
xolan99 01-17-08, 04:02 PM I found that on the site, it's not accurate.
It used to say my store had Blu-ray and HD DVD titles for certain films when it was actually just the standard DVDs.

unfortunately it doesn't work. one of the stores near me is supposed to have blu ray, but when I went in to see what the selection looked like there were none =(
My blockbuster carries blurays, but there is no special section for them. I went in there and they had one copy of 3:10 to Yuma with a POST IT NOTE that had the words "This is a blu-ray" hand written on it and stuck down in the jacket. And it was sitting with all the normal discs. I would hate to go through my store looking for bluray.
Luckily we have another rental store in town that stocks HD-DVD and Bluray in their own sections, so I am set.
No stores in my area stock HDM's.
A few months ago, I asked the girl behind the counter at Hollywood Video whether they were going to stock HD DVD or Blu-Ray titles. She had a total blank expression; had no idea what I was talking about. So she brought over the manager and we had a nice talk. At least, he had heard of Blu-Ray. He said that he would love to stock both formats, but as a retailer, he had two problems with stocking either format at this point. First was shelf space. He already has to stock two versions of every movie (Widescreen and Fullscreen), and already had limited space for catalog titles without having to dedicate more space for HDM's. The second was customer confusion. He already had customers confused between WS and FS, and he was worried that some people would be picking out BD or HD DVD's by mistake.
Both are legitimate concerns IMO.

So which store are you talking about? The one on 50th and 8th Ave? I don't think that one has it but i haven't been in a while.
JaylisJayP 01-17-08, 05:43 PM has anyone's blockbuster started selling used blu-rays?

That's exactly the one I'm talking about. They JUST started stocking Blu-ray :)
robertc88 01-18-08, 09:22 AM My local store only has one copy of just about all BDs they carry. No, they aren't to the point of selling used copies even when there is two copies of some that they have.
I think they would probably buy some used copies from customers but nobody has done that yet at my store. I'm curious though how much one would get. Maybe I'll try it to test the waters. I'm unsure if they even have a price list.

Mine doesn't sell any used ones yet but they sell now ones.... For like $40:eek:
robertc88 01-18-08, 10:14 AM And when you turn in a rental of a BD, make sure they check it in! I dumped one into the return bin and left the store and got a call from Blockbuster after awhile that they were going to charge my card for a non return. I got that straightened out as it was right on their store shelf but it would have been $40!
So don't trust their lazy employees! :)
wirechild73 01-18-08, 10:49 AM My BB added Blu-ray's last week as well.. Also the Hastings in my town just started offering both HDM and they actually have a nice selection.
