View Full Version : Warhawk Questions ->
WalksInDarkness 01-17-08, 04:41 PM Hi all,
OK, I don't know anything about online playing; so I have a couple of questions:
Newbie Playability - I am a very casual gamer, I would probably only play 1-2x a week for maybe 2 hours at a stretch. Will I just get capped online, or is the learning curve reasonable? Also, my wife plays family friendly games like "monkeyball"; do you think she would be able to catch on after a while?
Headset - can I set it so that the online talk only comes through the earpiece, and the special effects come through my HT? And maybe at night all sounds through the earpiece?
Online - I heard for newbies, it can be a PITA to play because too many people already know all the "cheats" and "glitches". Has anything been done to moderate this?
Thanks In Advance!
mulder_fbi 01-17-08, 05:05 PM The learning curve for having fun is short. You'll prolly get the hang of it in your first time playing. To actually be good, it may take a while. Read up on the warhawk tip threads here and else where to shorten the curve.
I know 2 PS3 wives and none of them like Warhawk. YMMV.
I dont know about that headset set up.
I dont know of cheats or glitches... what do you mean exactly? The real PITA is that you will die a lot initially, until you develop some strategies that work for you.
kekborg 01-17-08, 05:45 PM Like mulder said, spend a little time reading up on tips (wish I would have done this straight out of the gate).
You call yourself a casual gamer (as I did prior to this game). As you start getting the hang of this, be prepared to start calling in sick for work, ignoring the family (unless they can be of any help in your fight to save the world), and devoting every waking hour playing this game .
All kidding aside, this is one fun game. Stay in the lvl 1 servers until you start getting the hang of this and have fun!
mrigsby 01-17-08, 05:52 PM Both of the above statements are correct
here's a website
www.warhawkaddict.com
that will give you some help, i really wish it had been around when I started.
Anyway, watch out for Mulder in planes, he'll blow your tail off ;)
Oh, and send me a buddy request...then you can see when I"m on and I usually play with 1 or 2 AVSers each game
mulder_fbi 01-17-08, 10:06 PM I'm alright (aw shucks). I did remember someone cursing my name the other day. :D I have to start using my BT headset...
mrigsby 01-17-08, 11:01 PM That was me, I would kill someone and then you would come out of nowhere..... I could never tell where you where....we weren't in dog fights, you'd just show up to destroy me....happened like 3 times ;)
Big_Mog 01-17-08, 11:03 PM im a casual gamer, Bought war hawk, its an incredible game, but i put over 10 hours in it, and just couldnt get a hang of it, i killed maybe 1 person in those 10 hours, so i gave up and sold it

Must be the ol' "homing missle lock-afterburner combo". It doesnt give you time to chaff. The beauty of it is most ppl will chaff after the homing missle takes damage. Then they are really toast. :D
splinters 01-18-08, 02:08 AM As a new player, stay on the ground and learn the maps first. It's not a bad idea to create a local lan room first and move around the bases a little.
Stick to level 1 games and smaller games (8 and 24 max) to have a higher survival rate and get a chance to figure out how the game works and maybe get a few kills. :)
Knowledge of maps and where the weapons are really help out in getting yourself back in to action as quickly as possible.

snookalo 01-18-08, 10:17 PM Play the "Various/Variable" maps. I did that when I first started and it made you a little better at all aspects of the game. You get deathmatches, zones, CTF, and dogfights. Helps a lot for when you really get into a game and need it all.
