FIFA 08 is fantastic. NHL 08 is also fantastic. The blanket "EA sucks" statements just don't work anymore. Anyone who's been paying attention over the last year knows that.

Of course, there are no other 2.0 players out there either, so the "Saw IV" release is kind of moot anyway. At least the PS3 is likely to get Profile 2.0 support at some point, which is more than you can say for any other player you buy today.

:rolleyes:Sony announced at CES that the PS3 will be updated to support profile 2.0. They have never announced DTS-MA. So, this is a pretty weak comparison. I know we live in an instant gratification society, but the fact of the matter is that PS3 *will* be able to access the 2.0 features of the title at some point.

I'd rather see firmware upgrade giving us DTS-HD MA decoding ability rather than a 2.0 profile. Who would want those lame gimmicky extras crap over the ability to finally decode all those Fox/New Line flicks with DTS-HD MA audio tracks?

Turok demo is ok , nothing special IMO but the full game could be decent (???) . Starts out REALLY dark and the control is so-so but there's just something about fighting Dino's that usually makes for some fun ;) .

didn't think much of the Turok demo. it was on my watch list, but i definitely won't be picking it up now. i'm usually pretty good at shooters on console, but something about the controls didn't feel right. maybe its because i've been playing UT3 for the past 1-2 weeks.

I don't think the PS3 will ever get DTS-MA. I'd love to be proven wrong. :)

But basically, DTS-MA separates the PS3 from the much more expensive BD players on the market. Given that these other players aren't as capable as the PS3 in other ways, they have to make the other players stand out somehow.

The PS3 is fantastic. I'm more angry at the companies putting out things we can't take advantage of and boasting about it (like at CES). If the PS3 is Sony's baby for Blu Ray, which it clearly is based on their numbers, I would imagine they would be more proactive getting things ready to be the one to take full advantage of the technology. Not saying they're not, because I know they are, but with the release of a 2.0 profile disc next week, there's not even discussion going on about when it will be released. That's all.

There are some more constructive conversations on this going on in the hardware section for Blu Ray.

Only my 4th day of ps3 ownership already have 40 gig of demo games loaded and am having a blast! Noticed the turok and downloading it now, question i have is how often do these new updates (game demos mainly) happen, once a month once every 2 weeks, or are they just random and I got lucky seeing new demos 4 days into ownership.

Bummed there was no rockband demo tho, never played the guitar hero games but rockband looks similar with extra fun added in, wanted to just see the game a bit with controller even (if thats possible) before sinking $169 into the full kit...

Was it up and has it just been deleted (gone?) is there anywhere to request what demos they post?

I, as much as anybody, would absolutely love for EA to reach the high level of standards it has always been known for but to say they've made some spectacular rebound this past year is absurd.

I don't think he was talking about the overall qualitty of all EA games. It's more against the blanket statement. I agree that there are some quality games by EA and blanketing all EA titles as crap is absurd

Since Ciccitello took over again EA has been ruthlessly cost cutting. EA Chicago (makers of excellent FN3) got the axe for example. I bet they gave those games superlow budgets and put their D-team to work on them. They are just meant to sell to the drones that buy anything with those licenses slapped on 'em.

There is an update every Thursday around 7PM Eastern.

For sure... Burnout for example is not trash, nor is Skate, or Fifa08 for that matter... So lets even list EA games that have potential - Mercenaries, Battlefield, Army of Two, etc... I mean its a mixed bag...

But I will still have to agree with rgdigital's blanket statement and continue to use it while addressing EA games in any discussion. The terrible outcome of monster titles like Madden, NBA Live, and, TW has caused the blanket statement to be used and with good reason. I don't believe titles like FIFA and NHL will change that. I'm sure they are excellent titles in their own right, but not enough to bring back the masses. Bringing back those monster titles from obscurity will eliminate the "EA Sucks" blanket statements.

When they do I will see you for a 3-hole quick match on TW '09. I hope. And I can again join you in defending EA.

I totally agree! That is my favorite racing game. Game play, the sound track, and everything in the game, were just amazing! They just need to redo do this game with better graphics and online, and it would be perfect.

I liked it. I like that they're taking a chance with it. Since the gameplay is a caricature of soccer I like that they went that way with the art direction. It's like any other Street franchise (NBA, NFL), but it's fun. I don't know if I'd get a lot of use out of it, but it is a fun play.

I have to jump on the "Turok sucks big T-rex balls" bandwagon too. The stick control felt really sloppy and the graphics were rather meh for this generation. Made me appreciate the beautiful jungles of Uncharted that much more.

You're thinking of Battlefield Bad Company (developed by DICE), which does indeed look awesome.
