which 16:9 BD movies have the best picture quality? (full 16:9 only)

Perhaps just the top 20....?

I was searching the Tier thread... but it's very, very hard... since so
few of them are 16:9....

Thanks! :)

I vote for 'Galapagos', which is 1.78:1 and has absolutely stunning image quality (if not audio).

Mr. Brooks looks fantastic. Some of the close up shots of Kevin Costners face really blew me away, you see all the texture in his skin and it's really impressive. Definitely one of the best looking live action movies I've seen on blu-ray. I thought the movie itself was okay, but for me it's worth owning for the PQ alone.

Crank is 16:9, and it looks pretty good.

1.85:1 is still wider than 16x9. 16x9 is 1.77:1 or 1.78:1 so that only leaves about 4 titles that are listed. I think that Planet Earth "may" be a true 16x9 though I'm not sure about that.

Superbad was released as 1.85:1 at the theater, so I have no idea why it's being released on Blu-ray at 1.78:1.

The Simpson's looked fantastic in 1080p. But maybe that's because I'm used to seeing them on re-runs at 480i. Still very impressive.

On 1.85:1 discs, there's a very thin black bar across the top of my display (a Pioneer 5010FD)--it's not really noticeable from normal viewing distances, but it's there nevertheless. (This is critical if you want the entire screen filled when breaking in a plasma set, for example.)

With 1.78:1 discs (true 16x9), the entire screen is filled--no black bars at all.

And yes, 'Planet Earth', as well as 'Galapagos' (even better image quality than PE, IMO) are true 16x9. Most HD TV shows, like 'Lost' and 'Prison Break' are true 16x9 as well. And, most HD concerts, like the Dave Matthews BD, Legends of Jazz, and Chris Botti Live (all with superb image quality) are true 16x9.

That's 2.35:1.
