Hello,
I downloaded TVersity and installed it, made sure my firewall allows that program with no restrictions, started the sharing server, used the green + button added 2 folders one of pics one of vids went out to the ps3, saw in the video and photo section i see a white box logo that shows my pc name, i highlight and click that and it tells me it can't access it, something about possibly not having the ps3 name (ps3-986 or whatever) not registered or something along those lines.

I went thru every menu option I could think of and have been reading thru the getting started and help areas of tversity with no luck so far...

Hoping someone here will read this and chime in with an answer as to what I am doing wrong, I feel like i am so close since I can see my pc on ps3 just cant figure out how to access it quite yet.

Thank you in advance for any help on this...

Bill

I figured it out, down on my task bar i had an icon of an unknown device wanting access to my shared folder, i accepted it and went back out into livingroom, now i can access the pc thru the ps3!

Only problem now is the files in tversity that I "shared" by hitting the green + symbol aren't showing out there in those folders, im seeing simple basic sample video and default windows pictures all seemingly off the c drive vs the folders i had added to share which are located on an external drive thru my pc, is that the problem?

Do my files that I share have to be ON the C drive for this tversity to see them?

I did go thru the browse and set it up to share the folder that has my family pictures and the folder that has some music video files etc, just those folders arent showing, i see sample stuff like windows uses for sounds wallpapers, icons etc, but none of my music, pictures or video files as I scroll around the ps3 menus under each icon and its sub folders...

No you do not have to keep the files on your PC. I am streaming them from another PC to my PC and then to the PS3 just fine.

IMHO, you should get Twonky instead of TVersity. Twonky is much more stable and faster
streaming that TVersity. Also, the server appears almost instantly on XMB. Twonky also
updates the streaming directory everytime you add a file. TVersity chugs on around 7-9Mbps
streaming data while Twonky chugs at 20-30Mbps depending on your CPU and/or router. The
only downside is you have to pay after a month which I think is valuable. Twonky can be
set to tie directly on PS3's IP address so you get smoother connection and another
addition to everything, Twonky shows album cover art on music files :)

I had Twonky running on my NAS, and it didn't even support AAC files. Is it different for the PC version? (I now use TVersity on a PC, serving from my NAS.)

AAC works fine with mine. PS3 doesn't support multi-channel AAC though.

I have the TVersity setup on the pc, and in my ps3 I see under video and photo the name of my pc after searching for media server, all is good...

On the pc via TVersity I went in and used the green + button added like 4 folders of video and pictures and music to the sharing tab. So i see C/windows/music C/windows/pictures etc etc.

So to me that seems like on the ps3 end i should see those shared files.

But when I go to ps3 and access my computer thru the video or photos section and search thru the folders I don't see the shared folders I added. BUT I do see windows default wallpaper images and default sound files etc.

I made sure my firewall was accepting tversity and the port was clear, i made sure in the settings its set to ps3 as media playback device, I even went out turned off ps3, reset router and cable modem, rebooted the computer, hit refresh on TVersity Media Library, restarted ps3 researched for media server, it finds me i click into it but again all i see is the standard windows default files (not my pics vids and music) windows wallpapers and sample sounds from windows etc.

I guess I am just stumped and frustrated after a few hrs here of messing with it to see how close I am yet for whatever reason it isn't quite working yet.

Any suggestions?

Bill

Rescan your directories when you add new content.

When you say rescan do you mean in TVersity above the Sharing Tab the double blue arrows for refresh media library?

I tried that, even went into the advanced menu uptop and tried "recreate media library"

its too weird how on the ps3 i see my computer name with a windows media 11 player white box under video and photos etc, yet when I click them to see the files I have added via the green + symbol of TVersity I see folders but not what I created, these appear to be default windows files like vista wallpapers, sample songs, and a few generic sample video clips all that Windows must have built in.

I have reset the ps3, the router and cable modem, also did the updating mentioned above to TVersity, even going so far as to rebooting the pc and restarting TVersity, yet everytime i check the ps3 under video or photo all i see are folders with windows default images etc none of the shared directorie I created are showing, even on ps3 I tried hitting the search for media servers, thinking ps3 needed to refind it to see the changes...no luck...

I know I am close and that is what drives me a bit bonkers here...

Wait, I might have figured something out here, reading your how to configure TVersity page i followed the directions in my mind and yep I did it all for TVersity BUT I never went into windows WMP11 and set up THOSE shared folders!

I just did that and went back to TVersity and added a few more that I added from WMP11 sharing folders, and am refreshing TVersity now, will go restart ps3 and see if when I click the white WMP11 logo that it finds under VIDEO or PHOTO section of ps3, that hopefully this time it finds the files I want to share!

I didn't realize I had to use the share feature of TVersity and THEN also go to wmp11 and add them there as well (unless I am still goofing it up) I didn't realize I had to do anything with wmp11, but I followed the directions and am refreshing my TVersity files now and will give it a shot...

Ok that did it!

Sadly quite a few of my files don't appear to work, I see the folders now and some do work so thats a big start! But a few avi files give me a sorry cant play this file type message, and the folder I did enter for sharing of my dvds (vob files) doesn't even show up (altho maybe if i refresh the media library again they would).

Am I stuck with only using WMP11 on ps3 as the go thru program so to speak?

Glad to finally see some folders showing up for me on the ps3 and being able to play a few was nice... but I need to learn more about the ins and outs of what plays or doesn't play on ps3 thru this program, seems I could save myself alot of time by just dumping files as shared vs having to burn discs all the time of photos and video clips using nero in dvd format creation.
