before you finalize the DVD, go to system menu, then dvd settings, you will get the option to name disc. You can find more details at my blog, Angrytechblog.

Try djangelic's tip: one clue that it might work with your Sony disc is that the computer did actually read it as being created by a Sony: this could well be an automatic disc title your recorder embeds in all DVDs unless you change it. If not, you'll just have to live with it or use PC software to copy/re-author the important DVDs you feel must display a proper title. Unfortunately naming the disc in the recorder system menu doesn't always help with this issue. The problem is that Windows and/or your video software refuses to recognize the custom title on some kinds of burned DVDs, instead defaulting to the generic name UNIDENTIFIED_DVD_VOLUME or some such.
