My father has had an older Panasonic DVD player connected to a SD TV and it has worked fine. He recently bought a Panasonic 32" LCD, it's an older model-X60 or something like that. I have the DVD player hook up with composite cables because the one component input is being used by the cable set-top-box. The cable box doesn't have an HDMI output.

My problem is, the video from the DVD player is squashed, a narrow distorted picture in the center of the screen with huge black bars on the top and bottom. None of the TV's aspect-ratio adjustment fix the problem. Normal cable viewing is fine.

What am I doing wrong, what's the problem?

thanks

Does the player have a setup option to select between 4:3 and 16:9 displays?
