View Full Version : The Rock $10 rebate question

The Rock BD comes with a $10 rebate (with the usual "see inside for details"). Now what is the detail. I don't want to buy it and then have to send my SD DVD (Criterion).

Can anybody help me by letting me know entails for the $10 rebate?

Cut out the proof of purchase tab or upc codes from both the blue ray and the SD DVD and copy of the reciept for the blu ray version and your all set. No need to send in the actual dvd - my Criterion did not have the proof of purchase tab so I cut out the upc code bar.

I bought my copy at Wal-Mart and the rebate was not inside. Is the rebate form available online?

Not that anyone has pointed out. You have to call their 800 number, which has been posted in the deals thread and one of the Rock review threads.

But, there is no guarantee that they will accept a receipt of Walmart or in the OP's case the UPC tab from Crit. disc. (since Crit. is not disney/buena vista/touchstone). It would "appear" that BB was the only retailer that had copies of Rock and Con Air with the rebates and stickers adv. the rebates...at least I haven't seen others saying I bought the Rock at X retailer besides BB with the rebate form.

I ordered from DVDPlanet and the rebate forms were inside (and stickers outside). It's not just a BB thing, although obviously an etailer is a little different.

I think Walmart has the cheapest price $18.96 vs. every other BM store at $24.95. That may be a reason for no stcker.

Thanks Rooper for the info.

rr6966: that could be. I used the $5 disney coupon floating around on each of the titles, so the net was less than $15. If the rebate offer goes through, that's just icing on the cake.

I got Con Air and The Rock at Wally-Mart and both had the rebate.

I got both Con-air and The Rock at Fry's for 19.99 each with rebate coupon in the box and stickers about the rebate on the front.

I also was sure to check NO on whether I would have bought the titles without the rebate ( a question on the rebate form). I would suggest we all do this to promote future rebates for current owners.

I remember a rebate system for owners of titles like Snow white and other disney classics for DVD owners who owned the title on VHS.

I have every first line Disney animated feature on DVD (almost 50 titles). I would replace every one for 19.99-23.99 if they all offered a 10 dollar rebate.

Note one important thing - the rebate form states that the store receipt must be from a store located in the same state you are.

So as long as you buy from a B&M store you should be fine, but if you buy from DVD Planet or Amazon, you may be out of luck.

the $5 disney coupon expired 2/14.

The rebate is for DVD owners and you can redeem it ONE TIME. That means if you bought all 3 movies...only one rebate.

The ORIGINAL form is required. Criterion versions of the DVD are accepted as the form says any version of the DVD is fine.

Forgive me if I was out of line for thread-bumping this particular thread, but I wanted to bring to attention my update regarding The Rock $10 MIR; like a few folks here, I own the Criterion version and as such, cut out the UPC code to submit as my POP tab for owning the "original" version. Fast-forward to today, where I got a letter from the (I assume Buena Vista) "Fulfillment Center" stating that my request did not include the correct POP(s). Now I know exactly what I submitted, 'cuz they returned my rebate form--stapled to the envelope I mailed the form in--complete w/ the two tabs (Criterion UPC and POP tab taken from the BD copy) I taped to it.

Guess I'm gonna have to call them to see exactly why they apparently would not accept the Criterion UPC; I know it ain't because I didn't submit the correct POP for the BD copy, which AFAIK has "Stock No. 53682A / PROOF OF PURCHASE / THE ROCK" printed on the POP tab.

Will let you folks know what happens...

I was worried that would happen. I also have the Criterion version and simply cut the UPC out from the outer box wrapper and sent that in. I was tempted to make a photocopy of the back of the Criterion box to demonstrate I actually owned it but didn't think they would actually be stupid enough not to know about the Criterion edition.

The rebate form clearly states ALL DVD versions are eligible for the rebate.

Jerk offs!

Which release? I wonder if they completely forgot that they had the initial Con Air and then the "Extended" version that came out not too long ago? Does it specify which one applies here? I mean there were at least two version of all three titles on DVD at some point.

The thing that chaps my ass is the fact you have to cut out the UPCs. I wish they had inserts like Warner did on their cardboard/plastic cases where you didn't have to damage the case to get a rebate. Just pull the strip out the middle and it was a done deal. :(

It was the newer unrated cut. I guess they were looking for the old barebone release, but the form says any previous version, so they all should count.

Somone needs to send them a UPC from a "Pet Rock" and say that was "The Rock". And watch, it would get accepted! LOL

Anyone have a UPC from their VHS tape? :p Or Laserdisc? hehehe

Update--I called Buena Vista (800-723-4763, option 0); instructions as follows:

1) Write a letter explaining the situation, and that the POP that you submitted is a UPC label--as opposed to the familiar POP tab found on Disney/Buena Vista titles--from the Criterion version of The Rock; include your contact info on the letter.

2) Mail the above letter, along w/ the rejection letter that you received (you might want to make a photocopy of it) and all originally-submitted materials (rebate form, receipt, POP/UPCs) to the following address:

Archway Marketing
Attn: Special Handling
P.O. Box 72699
Rockford, MN 55572
Attn: Jodi, Dept #: 088

Now you may be told to do something differently (in the case of the poster who got the rejection letter for Con Air), or perhaps do nothing at all...but this is what I was told to do by the CSR (who BTW told me to do the above after talking to her supervisor).

I know you were probably just being funny, but to nitpick humorously--the form does explicitly state, "Any version/edition of these films on DVD" (bold text on my part). ;)

Well, I sent in the $10 rebates for The Rock, Con Air and Crimson Tide a couple weeks back. It will be interesting to see if I get any or all of them. My version of The Rock was the Criterion Collection and Con Air/Crimson Tide were both the "extended" versions. I included everything they requested(receipts, UPCs, etc) so if any of the submissions are returned I'll definitely be calling that 800 # .

Update (sort of)--I received my rebate check a few days ago...except I don't know if it was for The Rock or Con Air (I mailed in for both) since there's nothing on the check that indicates as to which specific rebate offer it was for. I mention this only because I had mailed in the rebate for The Rock first, then for Con Air...then a few weeks ago got a letter stating that my rebate submission for The Rock was invalid...to which I mailed a letter a few days later explaining the situation...fast forward to late last week when the (a) rebate check shows up. Maybe just coincidence? I think someone else mentioned elsewhere in AVS that you were allowed to submit the rebate request for only one of the three movies (Rock, Con Air, Crimson Tide)...so thus am wondering as to which movie I got the rebate for.

It doesn't say anything about that on the rebate forms that came with the Blu-Ray discs so I'd challenge them on that one big time. I bought all 3 and expect the $10 rebates for each purchase.

I did the UPC for the Criterion also. I just received my rebate back with a letter stating to send in the PROPER documentation. UPC will not be accepted. These companies suck! I have purchased The Rock so many times now, and even with offering the $10 rebate I still don't qualify. They can kiss my you know what! Don't send just the UPC!

Here's the "fine print" from the rebate form:

Limit one rebate per household. Offer valid and purchases must be made between 1/8/08 and 12/31/08. All requests must be postmarked by 1/31/09. Limit one submission per envelope. Group submissions are void. Store receipts must emanate from same state as consumer address. Rebates will not be mailed to P.O. boxes. Check with your local post office for a street address. Rebate rights may not be assigned or transferred. Requests not in compliance with all the terms of this offer will not be acknowledged or returned. All submissions are subject to verification and become the property of Buena Vista Home Entertainment (BVHE). Fraudulent submission including use of multiple addresses or P.O. boxes to obtain additional rebates may result in prosecution. Reproduction, purchase, sale or trade of this mail-in certificate or proof-of-purchase tabs is prohibited. Cash value 1/100¢. Offer good in U.S.A. and its territories, APOs and FPOs. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. Please allow six to eight weeks for delivery. BVHE will not be liable for lost, late, misdirected, mutilated, illegible, incomplete or postage-due mail.

Of course note that many people are being notifed of their rejected claims clearly contradicts the sentence above that states:

Requests not in compliance with all the terms of this offer will not be acknowledged or returned.

The rebate form explicitly states:

Mail

1) The original, hand-printed, completed certificate (no photocopies allowed.)
2) Proof-of-purchase tab or UPC from your original DVD.
3) Proof-of-purchase tab from your Blu-Ray™ High-Def version of the same movie.
4) Cash register receipt from your NEW Blu-Ray™ High-Def purchase imprinted with the store name and dated between 1/8/08 and 12/31/08 with purchase price circled (photocopies acceptable).

Since item (2) above clearly states:

Proof-of-purchase tab or UPC they're clearly in the wrong here.

BTW, don't blame Disney per se; it's the rebate company they've contracted with that's screwing up (except for perhaps the Criterion issue; I suspect Disney gave them a list of acceptable UPC codes that didn't include the code for the Criterion DVD.)

I just received my Con-air envelope back like the other people saying the P.O. Box is closed. But I also noticed that the stamp that says P.O. Box closed has the name ARCHWAY on it. Earlier in this thread I saw someone get an address for Archway in Minnesota as to where he should write a letter about the Criterion version of The Rock. I'd be curious if that will be where they send all of us now to get rebates fulfilled.

I tried calling the 800-number from earlier in the thread to ask Disney, but of course they are closed over the weekend. If anyone else already called and got the scoop, please let us all know. Otherwise I'll be calling them Monday.

Just got the 3rd of my three rebates returned back to me with the "not deliverable" stamp on it. The first two were rejected because they said I didn't include the right Proof of Purchase and now this one was returned even though it was sent to the EXACT same address as the other two. I'm going to call that 800# on Monday and raise hell for this. It's not even about the money as $10 rebates aren't that big of a deal, it's the fact that they're screwing us around and shirking their obligation to make good on these rebates.

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Union Street Acquisition Corp. said Wednesday it plans to buy Archway Marketing Services Inc. for $80.3 million.

Alexandria, Va.-based Union Street, a buyout firm that's acquiring and combining businesses, also said Wednesday it has bought Dallas-based Razor Business Strategy Consultants for $30 million. Razor is a marketing firm.

Rogers-based Archway, a subsidiary of AHL Services Inc., offers marketing operations management services. Archway has 580 employees and revenue of $89 million. The company, founded in 1953, has clients like General Motors, JP Morgan Chase and Microsoft.

Union Street (AMEX: USQ) paid $110.3 million for the two companies, 13 million of it in stock.

To add to toneman's post, I just called Buena Vista to ask for myself, and was able to get a clearer picture of which address(es) to use.

If you got your rebate returned saying the box was closed and your rebate was unopened, then you need to send it to this address:

Blu-ray $10 Upgrade Rebate Offer
P.O. Box 8077
Royal Oak, MI 48068-8077

Sounds like this is the new address they'll send all NEW rebates to going forward.

If you got your rebate returned saying you didn't submit all the proper materials (probably the people who had the Criterion Collection version of the The Rock), they should be sending their rebate to the MN address that tonearm mentioned (and like he said, minus the attn: Jodie):

Archway Marketing
Attn: Special Handling

The lady on the phone did ask me where I read about the various addresses, so I mentioned avsforum.com. I also told her I would post the info I learned from her and she thanked me as it would cut down on phone calls to them.

Any chance you took a picture of your rebate before sending it out? With how easy it is to take digital pictures these days, I always take out my digital camera and snap a few pics before mailing off my rebates. In this case, if you had that, I imagine you'd be able to print of a copy to mail in with your next submission to prove you were ripped off. Or maybe if you call the 800 number, you can get an email address to email your picture to in order to get special authorization.

Hope someone at Buena Vista will be able to help!

I always use my scanner to scan copies of everything I submit for rebates, including the addressed envelope.

Since I usually scan them the day I mail them, the creation date on the files give me good indication of when they were mailed.

The same thing happened to me this week for CRIMSON TIDE. Returned for lack of tabs. But the Proof of Purchase tabs were removed and you can see where the tape was cut. I usually photocopy rebate info before I send it in, but I can't find it for this one. It sounds like they are doing multiple tricks to avoid the rebate. Smells like a class action suite. I sent in *Canadian* rebates for Crimson Tide, The Rock and Con-Air.
I got 1 check for $10, and the other 2 were returned, declined as duplicates.

Is this rebate good for ONE movie, or ONE PER movie??

edit

I just called (1-877-823-0804) and was told that they *originally* thought it was 1 per household... and are now aware that it is 1 per movie, per household.

By the way, this is the same phone number for the 5 free movies offer.

I am one that sent in my rebates for The Rock (w/Criterion collection UPC) and Con-Air late enough that both got returned to me unopened saying the box closed down. I sent both of them to the Michigan address soon after, and just today got BOTH rebate checks in the mail. Nothing is printed on there saying which is for which title, so I'm glad I got both on the same day and didn't have to guess if they accepted my Criterion collection Rock UPC.

I was never sent a notice saying I didn't have the proper POP's (although I think I did write down "Criterion" on the POP when I sent it in :)) Either they finally figured it out or I got lucky.
