I have another thread on here asking for over a year if anyone knew when this might be released.

It has just popped up on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Y5JFLQ) with a placeholder, you can sign up to be emailed by clicking a link on the Amazon page.

Also here is a link (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=981447)to a thread in the HD-DVD forum about Stargate SG1 Season 9 showing up on Amazon France, to be released on February 27, which is not too far away.

Many many titles have had placeholders on Amazon come and go, some for titles that were never released, or even intended or announced for release, so it must be taken with a grain of salt.

...so I thought I would make one official thread.

Mods you can move my other thread into this one if you like its here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=865255&highlight=atlantis)

Looks like the studios changing camps may have helped out possibly with Atlantis.

There was a post on Engadget.com (http://www.engadgethd.com/search/?q=atlantis)
on Jan 13 of this year.

Maybe we will finally see this released.

I was thinking of doing a website petition where people could vote or indicate or whatever that they want it.\

If you are interested in getting this you should sign up for the notification email , at the above Amazon link to show interest.

There is some thought that Amazon.com reports that interest to the studio, though I have never seen that officially stated anywhere.

If there is any truth to it, maybe if enough people sign up for the notification email we may see this somewhere down the road actually out on bluray disc

am I the only one who is interested in this show?

Has anyone else signed up on the email notification list at Amazon in case they are tracking it for the studios?

How has this show done in subsequent seasons? I remember loving the first season, somehow missing out on the start of the second season and not liking it as much when I started catching the show again.

Definitely wouldn't mind getting this show on Blu-Ray....

And its gotten better every Season. Its definitely carried the torch for SG-1.

This last season was MUCH better. They are getting back into the mystery and discovery aspects of it.

Now that the original Stargate series is done, they are putting more effort into Atlantis.

I've actually really gotten back into Atlantis again. I really hope this show makes it to Blu Ray. I would also spend upwards of $100/season if Sony released Farscape on Blu.

Doesn't ADV still have the rights to Farscape? I ended up buying the DVDs anyways eventually but they were always overpriced and never done well. ADV never even had dual-layer discs. They had cheaper releases later but they used stupid double-sided discs that had problems with some players. And just like the first time through, they changed the packaging half-way through.

If Sony has the rights to Farscape now... oh man, I'd be all over that.

I absolutely HATED farscape. I don't understand the love it at all. Back on topic however, I would LOVE to have Atlantis. This is my favorite show currently on television.

I'm interested, but there has been absolutely zero news for an awfully long time. Posts asking when it is coming aren't really useful, and the amazon thing is really meaningless. It seems clear that MGM isn't even thinking of this now, because if they were I think they would float a trial balloon by releasing the upcoming SG-1 movies on blu-ray (much less risk than doing a season box), but they're not.

Not at all.

We have lots of posts on both format areas on here, about titles people want, but that are not announced at all, thats what the avs forum is for.

Posts asking questions about when a show is coming, get an answer with a date if one has been set, in cases where one has not, the best way to find out is to ask, just like any other question you don't know the answer to. So not sure why you would say its meaningless.

In this case, I spoke with Amazon.com on the phone, and they said often the data is shared with the studio if a large number of people sign up for email notification.

So the posts on here do that as well, by telling people there is a sign up list.

Now whether signing up for the Amazon email notification or anything we do as regular consumers makes a difference is anyone's guess, but showing interest in purchasing a product is never bad when it is done in numbers, which signing up for email notification on Amazon will help do.

I think like some past titles, a web petition might at least show how many people are interested in it.

As to the regular Stargate series, that was shot in no less than 4 different formats/resolutions. Seasons 1 and 2 would have to have the special efforts reworked because of that. Someone has posted all this on here in other posts.

Seasons 3-8 were shot in a different format but not HD.

Supposedly the last two seasons were shot in HD.

So the cost and work to bring Stargate SG1 to HD would be more than Atlantis, because it was shot in HD from day one. This was discussed over on SciFi.com several times.

The biggest fear over there I saw posted was Sony would scan SG1 in and put it out anyway as a sub-quality bluray set, and be barely better than SD DVD quality wise, but certainly not worth the much higher bluray cost.

I already own the dvd's of all the seasons of both shows but I would gladly buy them in HD.

About the the Ark of Truth. I really want that on BD. That would be great. I think before they do anything like that, they want to see if the movie is gonna do well in general first.

Can't wait to see if either of these things come to fruition.

I watch Atlantis on Sci-fi HD every week would love
to buy them on BD but MGM is releasing almost nothing so I bet it will be some time (years) before we see them. Star Trek was OK on HDDVD but Battelstar was awesome on HDDVD

well season 9 of stargate SG:1 is comming to HD-DVD in france (studio cannal) why season 9 so theirs always a chance for any of the shows/seasons to come out in america on BD via MGM.

I would love to see any of the shows come out the HDnet/universal showings have looked great

Since Atlantis was filmed 100% in HD I'd definitely re-buy the seasons in BD. As far as SG-1, I'll skip re-buying since I'm not in the mood to re-buy all those seasons.

Much like merlintl, I'd readily replace my Atlantis DVDs with BD (while leaving my SG-1 Complete Series as is)--and to answer the OP, I couldn't think of a title I want to see more in blu-ray than my favorite show, Stargate: Atlantis. S4 has been fantastic so far.

Regarding SG-1, why Ark of Truth won't be in blu-ray when genre fare such as Justice League: New Frontier and Doctor Strange gets BD treatment is beyond me.

When a date has not been set there is no answer, so to keep asking the question over and over again to people who don't know (those of us here on AVS) is meaningless. We've had two threads dedicated to this series (a release that I personally am looking forward to) and there is still no info.

As to the regular Stargate series
I wasn't talking about the regular series, I was talking about the upcoming direct-to-video films which will likely be shot in HD but released only on DVD (no Blu-ray announcement).

I have already answered this question, you ask to find out, and as it turns out someone knew about a possible upcoming release in France of SG1, even though this is not the title I made the OP about.

You mentioned SG1 so I shared what I knew about SG1 because it was mentioned. Look at how nice the people have been, who posted.

You come across as very negative, cheer up.

They claim that it was only shot in 2 formats.
35mm then the switch to HD video.

a few months ago I bought the complete box set of SG-1 on SD-DVD and it upconverts very very nicely so I don't know if I'd buy that over.

But I don't own any atlantis sets so I'd be interested in that on BD.

Also I'd LOVE LOVE to get Ark of Truth on BD. I've already seen the version that was leaked to the net so I know whats comming and am excited by it. I've actually been holding off pre-ordering AOT waiting to see if there would be a BD release of it.

I'll be in to rebuy SGA S1!

I stopped buying SG DVD's after SGA S1 and SG1 S8!

This latest season of SGA (S4) has been great and i'm really liking the storylines!

As it turns out you were wrong.

Posting & asking the question got us some information about a planned Studio Canal release of SG1 Season 9, so it was not meaningless.. while not on Bluray now it may end up on Bluray with all the studio swaps before this is all over.

..and you said they might do a trial float of SG1 first
(which I completely disagree as a basis for us seeing Atlantis on Bluray before SG1, since Atlantis was shot in HD from day 1 and would be easier to get a HI Def release out)
but it looks like we are now seeing, albeit in HD-DVD in a foreign country, though I am not sure if this would be a "trial release" or release of HD-DVD disc inventory already made for production and sale.

Of course it goes without being said none of this may come to pass, but that can be said about any release in HI Def right now since both formats are still in their infancy.

While it is not a bluray but since it is the other Stargate show being released in high def, and for those like myself who like to see something in a web link here is the Amazon France (http://www.amazon.fr/Stargate-sg-1-saison-HD-DVD/dp/B0011YJPC8/) link to SG1 Season 9 in HD-DVD.

I have started a thread over in the HD-DVD forum with over 1000 hits on this already, so let's keep the HD-DVD topic portion of the posts over there.

Arg. Stargate Ark of Truth has no blu ray, yet Stargate Continuum has a release date for blu-ray...and STILL no stargate Atlantis on blu-ray!

My wife and I are nearly through season 7 on Stargate SG1 (she has never seen them, I have) and I don't want to double dip!
(Atlantis starts at Season 8 of Stargate SG1, and sometimes does crossovers, so watching them in every-other series order makes the most sense)

:confused:Whatever the reasons, I can't figure Sony out. This show was shot in true hi def from day one, specifically for a bluray release I remember reading way back when on the sci fi boards.

It's disgraceful in the age of hi tech, that show ran 3 more seasons after the Sony display showing Atlantis on Bluray during the launch of Bluray at the beginning.

I can understand that image being a mistake or being pulled, but how many years will it take to see this show on Bluray. It might have survived, had they put it out on bluray disc. One of the reasons cited for the Atlantis cancellation is the economy and the cost of Canadian shooting. Its very sad, the writing had its ups and downs, but the season premiere on the internet drew a massive audience for season 5, this last, & current season.

Sony doensn't own the rights (I think they did but just for a very short time). MGM/FOX hold the rights. The Continuum Blu-Ray seems to have sold pretty well. Arc of Truth has already been anounced for BR. I'm pretty sure Atlantis is going to be released eventually.

That's kind of doing it backwards though. The Arc of Truth has a somewhat limited appeal, and most who wanted to see it already bought the DVD. It should have been on BD when it first came out. They will lose sales now.

I see Atlantis has FINALLY been given the green light on Bluray :D if only for a sample disc with the 10 most popular episodes

You can vote for which epsiodes live right now at this at

STARGATE HUB (http://www.stargatehub.com/fanschoice/)

Information at GateWorld (http://www.gateworld.net/news/2009/01/fans-to-pick-atlantis-episodes-on-blu-ray/)

Is anyone else as happy?

I wonder why someone started another thread btw, I have been following this for a couple of years now, it is not fair being kinda hijacked, the mods usually merge the threads into the oldest orignal post :o

The most popular episode looks to be Enemy At The Gate.

I had started threads back in 2007, but I do not know if they are still around .

That just baffles me. It was a good episode and I think it should be included because it is the finale. But, most popular??? Meh.

I'm looking forward to getting this disc. I don't typically buy whole seasons of TV shows, but would like to own some solid episodes to show friends.

I copied the last two posts to this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1109126 that has current release info. No need to make people wade through false alarm posts. In reality, it only matters once people start getting the BD in their hands.
