View Full Version : Movie poster purchases
Hi guys,
New to this forum but just wondering if anyone has ordered movie posters from movieposter.com. I'm just curious as to the quality of the posters. As well, what other places are good to order quality posters from? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
taxman48 01-18-08, 09:02 PM I stick with "AllPosters.com" . Never had any trouble with my orders. Check out my gallery for some pictures of the posters..hope this helps..:D
Art Sonneborn 01-18-08, 09:06 PM All Posters is a fantastic place,I've been very happy with them. I will say to be careful however on expectations. A 2001 ASO poster was way lower res than I expected. Their pictures don't allow a blow up even of sections.

I'll let you know what the quality is like.
MidLife 01-18-08, 10:53 PM I was unfortunately mislead by DeepDiscount. I recieved a "photocopy" of a movie poster that included the "fold-line". Very disappointed. Buyer Beware.
Thanks guys,
willise - please let me know about those $5 posters when they arrive.
coolhand 01-19-08, 02:16 PM I started at allposters.com but moved to eBay and now get originals only. I have gotten most them for significantly less than the reprints at allposters. They are collectible, resaleable, and above all else are superior in quality. Several of the above posts have shown disappointment in the quality of their prints. A lot of poster houses are essentially just copying a large poster and the results are often not pretty. Even the older posters that have some wear look really cool. Adds some authenticity. I have worn copies of Spartacus, Magnificent 7 (I got REALLY lucky with this one), Raiders of the Lost Ark (with all the fakes going around I was more comfortable with a worn copy) that I got for basically what a repro would have cost.
have any of you used laartwork.com? they have some very cool looking posters on their website, but i have never used them. i kinda like the change from the norm. they are fairly expensive, at about $60 for a poster-size artwork, though.
specifically, the 'movie art' section. very cool, i think.
sanjuro1 01-24-08, 03:31 PM I have been buying from laartwork.com for almost three years now. They are really cheap when you know what it actually is. They are signed canvas prints by the artists. I only buy the Leon art so I am not sure if the quality is the same for the others. He does his work in pencil and they look incredible. I have a code for 20% off: MEMBER it looks like it still works. I asked them about special request (I was looking for a Raising Arizona) but I didn't hear back. I still love my first which was the Toshiro Mifune.

cool, i really want the trinity matrix poster from their website. i will try the code.
Monoplex 01-25-08, 06:58 PM I've ordered from Movieposter.com and gotten quality, double-sided posters. I think their search engine leaves a lot to be desired, but my dealings with them have been nothing but smooth.

Be careful with this site. They are $5 for a reason. The print quality of the posters are fine but when they say size is approximately 27 by 40 they mean it. I bought 5 posters from them and 1 was bigger and the 4 were a bit smaller. I already had the frames so I use them anyway but there is a small edge around it that shows because of the size discrepancy. There is no way i was going to pay to custom frame a $5 poster.
coolhand 01-28-08, 01:49 PM Feel free to PM me with any requests. I have a ton of posters I don't use.

krboo and sanjuro, thanks for the link to this site, I really like these 'posters'. I think they may work well in my theatre with its dark walls and ceiling, I could totally see it working well with my decor. What I also like is the potential of this not reflecting as much as a traditional framed piece may, which leads me to my question, sanjuro... what is the finish like on these works? Does it have a gloss to it all?
If you had any pics of how you've incorporated these pictures into your room I'd love to see them. Finally, how did you mount them, the site say it comes as rolled up canvas did you frame it, or just staple it to a frame and leave it unframed; I'm thinking that may look cool too.
