Why does it take so frigging long to download a demo? Just got my PS3 and I gotta say the Sony network is a joke. Are they planning an upgrade or is this just the way it is? Reminds me of 10 years ago on 56k dial up.

My Wi-Fi connection to the PS3 is pretty slow also.... but my wireless laptop (in the same room as the PS3) is super fast and never loses connection, the PS3 does lose connection sometimes.

Other threads seem to indicate that you need to optimize the settings on the wireless router for the PS3...

my 60gb seems to have a horrible wireless antenna so now i hard wire it, and leave my laptop wireless. my laptop works 100%, and now my ps3 never loses connections, best of both worlds, unfortuantely it doesnt solve ur wireless issue (i just avoided it because i could) :( personally id say hardwire it once to see, because it goes super (well i wouldnt say super) fast hardwired (its def noticable) :\

Sometimes it's quick, others it's slow.

Best bet is just to start the downloads before you head to bed, so everything is ready to go for you when you wake up in the AM.

That way you never get frustrated.

Another nice feature is using the PSP to start the download while you're still at work on a Thursday afternoon, so by the time you get home, it's already downloaded a nice chunk.

Asshandler, that would be a great feature if the goshdarn psp remote play feature would work (WHICH IT DOESNT FOR ME!)

I'm not using WIFI. Hard wired to a 10meg down 1meg up connection. That is very consistant. It just seems to me if Sony was going to make a media machine like the PS3 they wouldn't skimp on the network. It shouldn't take 4 hours to download a demo. On my computer or Xbox it would be a matter of 10 minutes max. Very disapointed on the gaming network. At least it is an excellent Blu-Ray player.

I have a 25MB down and 1.5 up connection. My downloads are VERY slow even when I have it hooked directly to my cable modem.

I don't know about you guys, but I have a 3meg connection and the average demo takes 15mins.

Wow, I watched your video it seems to be going up at a rate of 1mb every 3 seconds... My fastest speed is 1mb every 6 seconds (half of your rate), and most of the time it's more like 1mb every 10-15 seconds... very slow!

QFT. It's not Sony's network that the problem.

Then what is the cause of our slow PS3 downloads? I have the 80gig MotorStorm PS3 which is about a month old.

I am using Windows XP2 home edition PC and using Windows Media 11. I am using Comcast broadband with a Linksys WRT54G wireless G broadband router and Linksys WMP54G wireless G adapter on the PC. Router is upstairs, computer and PS3 are downstairs but not close enough to wire together. I am using WPA encryption with my router.

I just ran the Speakeasy Speed Test (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/) on my PC and my PS3. My download speeds are as follows...

Computer:
Download Speed: 6175 kbps (771.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1613 kbps (201.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

PS3:
Download Speed: 3238 kbps (404.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Previous tests averaged @ 2,000 kbps
Upload Speed: 54 kbps (6.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Why are my download & upload speeds so darn slow on my PS3 compared to my computer? They are both wirelessly connected to my router.

I have played around with the Applications & Gaming router settings on the Qos tab but I did not noticed any benefits.

My PS3 has a wired internet connection. I have a 5Mbit internet connection. I have a Linksys WRT-54G with DD-WRT firmware.

It took me 5 to 6 hours to download the Ratchet and Clank demo. That's just not right.

XBox Live demos download in a reasonable amount of time. I get fine download speeds on my PC.

What the hell is up with that?!

I Q up a bunch of stuff before going to bed, and download at night while running Folding@Home.

Though recently I downloaded the Turok demo during the day and it took about 1 hour with a 2 meg internet connection (DSL).

I've noticed the slow downloads as well. It has to be something on Sony's end or maybe some ISP's are throttling traffic from Sony or PSN.

yeah, not sure why, but recent demo downloads have been quite slow to say the least.

I also get bad DL speeds also. I thought it was because I was using wireless with my PS3 so I switched to wired but it didn't make any difference. My computer and my xbox download speeds are great it just the PS3 that is slow. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be great.

Mine too are VERY slow either wired or wireless.

My 4 year old wireless laptop does great.

I thought I read somewhere this is a problem with the Motorola Cable Modem.

I wish Comcast would come over with a bunch of modems and let me try out different ones to see if it helps.......

mus be sony's network then, some demos were fast for me others took maybe an hour to download. using a 5meg wired connection.

Its very frustrating. I've only had my PS3 for about a month. So some of you have seen faster downloads? Kinda hard to download or game online through a straw.:mad: How can Sony make a gaming machine with no network in place. I am very dissapointed in the PS3 gaming experience. At least I got my Planet Earth Blu-Ray set to make me happy with my purchase.

Anything new out there that may shed light on this issue.

I am still painfully downloading demos as such.

Wired vs. wireless it all seems WAY slower than my computer connections.
