Building my 12 x 18 HT and looking for HVAC solutions....

The house has hydronic radiant heat and/or baseboard heating, no AC, no furnace or other forced air system to tap into for the basement HT. The basement HT has no ventilation, code requires a mechanical system (where there are no windows) with outdoor make-up air.

Wondering what others have done in this situation.

My thinking...

Fantech AEV1000 air exchange ventilator
Electric in line duct heater for the heating needs

the A/C portion is up in the air. 6+ months of the year the air exchange ventilator should be fine (natural A/C). In the summer, the area will see much less frequent use (too many other things to do in the short summer!) so we may forgo the AC for now.

A small mini split system. Save the money on the duct heater and just get a mini split that has heat option.

here is one place to read about them.

I haven't priced a duct heater yet, but a mini split is only an OK option. I didn't want the blower on the wall, and they do make noise (although very little). Additionally the distance to the exterior compressor would be an issue.

I think the ductless application is better matched if you don't have or need the ducts - but i need some ducting for make up fresh air.
