View Full Version : Broke my controller last night

I usually don't get that mad at these games, but last night I was very, very annoyed while playing warhawk.

I was on the loosing team, looked like a bunch of rookies were playing with me and Archipalago. Well, we were being crushed, we had only one plane and the rest of my team would do nothing to try and gain some zones (we were playing CTF)

Well, the other team had about 7 Warhawks in the air. I consider myself a fairly decent pilot and can hold my own against just about anyone. Well, my team would jus tsit there and not even fire at the Warhawks so they would just hover over s unloading on everything that would move. They would only leave when they needed to rearm.

Well, I would get the only warhawk we had but i would either get tow missled or destroyed when I took off. Even when I would get off the ground I'd be pursued by 4-5 enemy planes. I usually took out 1 or 2 before dying but it got to the point that I was so angry at my team that I threw my controller into the wall. Suddenly I had a bunch of little pieces instead of a controller.

The most fristrating thing was...I took over the center base once after getting away from the other warhawks and stood there for 30 seconds and not one member of my team respawned there even though I was telling them to and they were getting demolished.

I still ended up with an even k/d ration of 15/15 - but I was killed 15 times without getting near the falg...I hate games like that

Sorry, long for the long post, just had to rant. Also, I'm too stubborn to change sides, I would rather stick it than change

I know the feeling. There's a fist-sized dent in the plaster of one my walls I made while playing Battlefield 1942 a while back. The only time I've broken a controller in frustration was with FF10 on the PS2.

Well I try not to stress like that over gaming because it is supposed to be fun but the damn BT controller cutting out at the worst time is getting old and might result in a few parts lying across my floor ;) .

I've had many urges to do the same the last few days while dealing with the intolerable lag in COD4. Thankfully, I've learned to better manage my temper as I've gotten older and haven't thrown any controllers since the PS2 days. The $50 price tag of the SIXAXIS has also helped prevent controller breaking episodes.

In the late 90's me and my roomates would play NCAA football non-stop. There were plenty of thrown controllers in that time. I even took one and stomped it into the floor I was so mad after one game. I think I was in that game with you last night. It ended up getting better after a few people quit. The game that really sucked was when it was like 6 on 12 after everyone quit.

I have never broken any controllers due to anger but my friend decided to throw his glasses up against the wall while he was playing Counter Strike one day and had to put them back together with thread it was hilarious, and the wall had a giant gash in the sheetrock.

I broke an Xbox 360 controller while playing Halo 3 with my friend and his friends who it seemed all did nothing but play Halo 2 for 3 years prior. Yea, as much as it sucked to get my ass kicked it sucked about 10 times more to be out $50. I won't do it again!

I had broken a fair number of the original Atari joysticks (big stick, one red button) in my youth. In my defense, it was very easy to do when you gripped the base and torqued the hell out of the stick. Now I just squeeze the controller until the rage disappears... unless I become hulk-like, crushing the controller and costing myself $50 in my bare hands seems unlikely.

I've broken many controllers, and even yelled at them in my younger years... Do you think I might be crazy? Since I always seem to ask that question... ;)

Last time I yelled at a dead/unresponsive object was when a pair of pliers pinched the **** out of me, leaving the nastiest bruise in the world on top of my trigger finger which made me even more mad; since i could not play games well for a few days.

These controllers are cheap pieces of crap. I've already broken two completely by mistake (although I fixed one). One time, I was baking a grenade on COD4 online when the piece between R1 and R2 (If you've ever opened a controller, you'll know what I'm talking about) suddenly popped to the point where it was halfway on and halfway off. No unfixable damage was done, but I had to open the controller and refit the piece, all the while without messing up the sensors or making the buttons feel mushy (once again, if you've opened the controller, you'll understand). The other, I spilled orange juice on. Not that much, either, just enough so that somehow all the buttons got sticky and somehow my left analog stick will only move up and down with absolutely not directional output. Thanks for your cheap crap, Sony.

I kinda broke off the piece between the left shoulder buttons and temporarily disabled the controller after a game in my NHL 08 dynasty. I don't blame Sony for that one. (I am totally ripped, after all) ;)

If I get mad at a game, the worst that'll happen is that my language will get "salty." But when that's the case, I know it's time to hang it up for a little while. I'm looking at you Ninja Gaiden!

Ironpaws,
I feel your pain. Seems like the ctf games I get in lately, I'm either on the really good team or the really bad team (the balance just does not seem to be there for some reason). Because of this, over the last couple of weeks, I make it my job to grab/keep zones. I check every now and again and if we are keeping zones, then I will go for the flag :D. Have not actually tossed the controller yet, but if it could understand what I was saying to it I'm sure it would stop working :D.

By the way, it was fun flying around and getting killed by you the other day. I would pull out the "i was having a bad game because my son wanted to play split screen which makes it harder for me to play" excuse, but you truly have some sweet skills in that hawk (I actually had my boy stop his game for a little bit so I could take you on with a full screen...didn't matter, you were still blowing me out of the sky ).

i refuse to chuck a PS3 controller, mainly for the reason of price. I did throw a PS2 controller (across the room) against a concrete wall one time, only knocked the R2 button off. damn you 007 nightfire! popped it back on, worked fine. i guess they don't make em like they used to.

Kekborg,

Thanks, I've been working harder at it. I've recently been throwing myself in against the best. On the warhawk forums they have a thread about the top five pilots people have faced off against. i wrote down all the names and added them as buddies. Now, I go to their games and, if on the opposite team, I seek them out for a dog fight.

If those guys aren't in a room, I throw myself into 2 on 1 dog fights. I'm getting a lot better and have some nifty new trics on what works in those situations.
