View Full Version : Need help please (found a MAS7.1switcher) PDP-6010FD to Rotel 1066 with HDMI cable krab 01-20-08, 12:12 AM I just received my Pioneer 6010 and I don't know how to connect the plasma hdmi in from the Rotel processor since the Rotel has no hdmi out. Am I missing something obvious? ccotenj 01-20-08, 09:58 AM geez, you'd think someone who has seen so many plasmas that they could definitively state power conditioning "facts" about them would know the answer to this question... ;) you have two choices... 1) get a component to hdmi adaptor similar to this one (http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr2hdmi.html)... 2) just connect via component to the 6010... option 2 would be easiest and cheapest... i don't see any reason to use option 1... krab 01-20-08, 01:49 PM geez, you'd think someone who has seen so many plasmas that they could definitively state power conditioning "facts" about them would know the answer to this question... ;) you have two choices... 1) get a component to hdmi adaptor similar to this one (http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr2hdmi.html)... 2) just connect via component to the 6010... option 2 would be easiest and cheapest... i don't see any reason to use option 1... Thanks for the info. The reason I'm asking is I never encountered hdmi cables or connections before and therefore I never read about or paid any attention to them. So yesterday My son come over and helped me mount my new Pioneer PDP-6010FD 60" Plasma. By the way, I purchased the plasma from @invisiondisplays.com and Roman and his staff are the best people I ever dealt with when buying home electronics. First we took down the 50" pioneer PDP 5040- FD and When I disconnected the old dvi cable I said ohoh something is wrong here. I forgot my new plasma uses hdmi. Before I started my research I posted this question for any feedback. Now I understand and I will buy a Zektor MAS7.1 audio/hdmi switcher. the unit also has IIR™ learning allows the MAS7.1 to work with virtually any remote control! All discrete codes are supported as well which will make it easy to program it to my Universal mx-3000. Kei Clark 01-20-08, 02:35 PM You should be able to use a simple DVI to HDMI adapter on the end of your present cable if you're not using the HDMI audio. krab 01-20-08, 03:05 PM You should be able to use a simple DVI to HDMI adapter on the end of your present cable if you're not using the HDMI audio. As I said before this hdmi cabling is new to me. By using a simple DVI to HDMI adapter for the plasma when watching tv and regular dvds wouldn't I also need to run a separate hdmi cable from the plasma to my bluray player? If this is correct I would like to use my mx300 for switching? Also, please elaborate on the hdmi audio subject because I'm unclear on this subject. Thanks for the reply! krab 01-20-08, 03:11 PM geez, you'd think someone who has seen so many plasmas that they could definitively state power conditioning "facts" about them would know the answer to this question... ;) you have two choices... 1) get a component to hdmi adaptor similar to this one (http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr2hdmi.html)... 2) just connect via component to the 6010... option 2 would be easiest and cheapest... i don't see any reason to use option 1... Be very careful breathing the toxic waste dumps of new jersey.:D:eek: ccotenj 01-20-08, 08:59 PM obviously i'm missing something here, since the 1066 doesn't have dvi out (at least according to the rotel website, otherwise, it would have been suggested to use a dvi to hdmi converter)... krab 01-20-08, 09:09 PM obviously i'm missing something here, since the 1066 doesn't have dvi out (at least according to the rotel website, otherwise, it would have been suggested to use a dvi to hdmi converter)... You are 100% correct. I do have another problem because I have a Temporary hdmi to dvi converter as you suggested and when I plugged this cable into the plasma I can't get a picture, any ideas? ccotenj 01-20-08, 09:17 PM what i would do is run component from my cable box and bluray player to the 1066 and then component from the 1066 to the plasma to take care of the video... then i would run spdif from both the sources to the 1066 for the audio... you don't say which bluray player you have, but if you have the option of analog output from the bluray player, then i'd use that and connect analog for bluray (that way you'd get whatever advanced codecs your player will decode)... this would be the "easiest" and also simplify the switching... Kei Clark 01-21-08, 03:44 PM If the cable worked in your older setup (via DVI), it should work just fine with the adapter unless there is something wrong with the adapter. For testing purposes, you may want to try a short cable connected directly to your plasma and work your way back to the DVI cable you already have installed. |
