I have yet to hear of a HD-DVD import that doesn't have it's native audio track on it (which for this would be English)

Then that would be good news AND HD-DVD is region free everywhere unless I am mistaken, though getting your hands on this will obviously not be easy.

Season 1 looks like trash on DVD and has only a Dolby 2.0 sound track. I would like to see if not a HD version a better DVD version of the early series.

I'll be ordering SG1 season 9 if it has English soundtrack. Got a huge SG fan in the family. :)

It's funny when I order from amazon.com it takes 2-3 weeks and I live in the US. Yet amazon.fr averages 2 weeks. I've used them 3 times now.

Id assume I'm using basic shiping as its the cheepest option. I do have to pay for shiping were as amazon.com is free. So that might have something to do with it..

Or prehapps I've just been lucky who knows the next time might take really long. As so far it doesn't appear to have hit customs

Yeah, that's odd. But I have experienced something similar ordering from Amazon UK (for delivery in the US). I received two HD DVDs from the UK much more quickly than I have received some of my orders from Amazon. Go figure! :D

Compare it to any other season, like season 4, then go back and rewatch S1 and the poor PQ and graininess should be very obviously.

the Nox and Hathor have some very poor PQ. The Pilot episodes have some bad PQ as well. Later seasons have some outstanding work.

Dolby 2.0 sound for season 1 and the other 9 seasons have 5.1.

They'd have to re-master season 1 for dvd just to match the quality of the other seasons.

I am forced to agree to some extent, whatever format seasons 1 and 2 were shot in, they are widely known to be the worst looking on dvd of the 10 seasons, and of course the word is seasons 9 and 10 were shot in hi def, so that is why we are probably seeing season 9 first in an hd disc format.

I have to agree. When I bought the first season, I thought someone had substituted bootleg copies of the DVDs because the picture quality was so bad. Anyone know if the earlier seasons were shot on film or video?

Whatever it was its a much lower resolution that the remaining seasons were shot in. It's a pity, I bet if they had known it would run 10 years, maybe someone would have ponied up the money to at least shoot it the way they shot seasons 3-8.

The irony is HDTV has been around for a good 6-7 years or more, though not many stations had it broadcasting at first. They knew HD res was coming for broadcasts 10 years ago.

Money is usually always the issue. Those first two seasons really are awful to watch on dvd. Maybe if they ever rework the special effects and put them out on HD-DVD propery not just scanned over and sold without any transfer work, the HD discs might at least look like sd-dvds.:D

I hate to break it out, but the title header of the Amazon page is wrong. There is no HD DVD planned for Stargate-SG1 whatsoever.

What happens is that on Feb 27, the DVD boxset of SG1 Season 10 comes out in France in two different editions (a stargate-shaped boxset and the vanilla box). There is also a 59-DVD limited edition megapack including the 10 seasons of SG1.

In order to push season 10, the distributor (Fox Pathé Europa) will be doing a special promotion on the standalone DVD editions of seasons 1 to 9.

Please remember that Fox has the int'l rights of the MGM catalog (Stargate is MGM property), and before them Columbia briefly held MGM's rights for a short while.

This means a few of these DVD boxsets will be reissued with fresh EAN (like your UPCs, but with 13 digits). In addition, the 9 seasons will also come out in vanilla boxes with different EANs.

The arrival of these new SKUs means that Amazon had to create new product pages. It's very likely that someone at Amazon made a typo and mistook the DVD for a HD DVD. I double checked it with the distributor's retailer data -- no HD DVD is remotely planned. As of now, FPE is 100% Blu.

BTW, Studiocanal hasn't worked with FPE for at least 10 years. Right now, Studiocanal's sole distributor in France is Universal. Canal should still own the rights of the motion picture. The TV series is MGM only.

I want Stargate Atlantis on HD-DVD! That would be sweet!

The movie should come to HD-DVD as many of the early studio cannal discs have stargate previews.

Id Really likes to see the TV show on HD-DVD but if blu-ray does it soon id be OK with that

I actually ordered it and got it delivered a couple of weeks ago. To my disappointment, the box set was SD-DVD (PAL, of course), not HD-DVD.
I e-mailed Amazon.fr and they admitted that they screwed on this.
Their actual message is:

figured the season 9 boxset was an error. to bad. i hope MGM puts the seasons out on blu-ray now
