Hey everyone. Heres the deal, my gameroom is upstairs. I was wondering if there was a way to have a motion sensor on the door at the bottom of the stairs, that would wirelessly turn a light on or make a sound when that door is opened, so i can know if someone is coming up. Don't ask me why.. Lol. Thanks.

The second one listed looks like it would be what i need. I don't need it to turn on any big lights or anything, i just want like.. a little led or something to turn on. I need it to work in the night and day. And i would like it to be cheaper than 40 bucks.

I got Mini Magnetic Wireless Alarm / Chime 4 pack at a dollar store. You can set them for alarm or to chime like in some store that you go into. Here is an image of ones that are close to what I bought.

i know homedepot sells motion sensor switches. So instead of flicking on a switch you just pass your hand through it. Never tried it though.

LED? if you taking in adult activites up in the game room, you will not see an led that somes on unless you have it in you hand and looking at it all the time......LOL

Lol. You guys are missing the idea, I want a light or led or something that will turn on when the downstairs door is opened. Wirelessly. The light would be in the room upstairs, the motion sensor that turns it on would be on the door downstairs. Sorry for not clarifying.

I think the link Rupert posted to radio shack is exactly what you need. It has a sensor and a receiver that would notify you with a sound. You can add more sensors to it..each will make a different sound.

Another option...you can get a cheapo home security system (mine cost about $50) that monitors the doors and windows (using sensors that are similar to the chimes shown above. YOu can also get optional motion sensors that work with it.

The receiver/control base is wireless, and can be turned to 'home' so no sound is made, but you can see a light for whichever sensor was tripped, chime which will make a sound when the sensor is tripped, or away which will start the 'alarm' sound if a sensor is tripped. Sounds like chime or just the silent 'home' setting would work for you.

I have a couple of different varieties in my house

This one I have on my front porch hidden in a corner and also at the bottom of the stairs in my basement theater room - if anyone approaches the stairs it lights up and illuminates the bottom landing (and where it ends). The one on the porch is ceiling mounted in a corner and the one in the basement sits on a shelf at ground level.

The other one I don't see any longer (but think I bought at the same place) - basically the same thing (LED motion light) but smaller in a little tube a little bigger around than two 'D' batteries.

I also have (but have never installed) a motion sensor light switch (generally available at places like home depot or lowes)... if you have a light switch and the light on your stairs isn't too bright such that it disturbs the environment you might consider one of those.
