I've decided to build a cheap fir frame and use blackout cloth. The planned height of the screen is 65" (width 120", giving me maximum size in available space for all aspect ratios) but the local manufacturer only carries 54" blackout cloth, so I have to splice it. I'm planning to do so at roughly 11" from the top since I think that will interfere the least with the picture, but am wondering if I could go with a solid piece in the middle and then splice roughly 5" at the top and bottom.
Question: Is anyone out there who has worked with blackout cloth familiar enough with how it lays to make a suggestion? Thanks!
Somewhere in the past, there have been posts where someone has found 84" Blackout Cloth.
Do some searches and hopefully you can find those posts, or somebody will chime in with current info.
Good luck,
Ron

i just finished my screen a couple days ago. I made mine where it was 106 diagonal. layed it on the floor on top of a clean sheet after I made my frame for the screen. It goes pretty smooth when you get to this poing you just have to make sure you get the cloth stretched to its maximum. One thing I figured out after I did my frame and as I began stretching is that had I made the screen a little smaller or used boards other than 2x4's the stretching would have been a lot easier on the wide side of the screen. I will be glad to answer any other questions you have as mine was a learning expieriance and after I completed it looks very professional and I dont know that I would do it differant because it ended up letting me have a better boarder and a sturdier screen

Welcome Youngdave !
I am pretty new here myself, there are a of experienced folks on here. I am sure your 'll be hearing from them.
Go luck on your project .
Ohp20011, Boy that screen looks great, good job.
Something worth considering is the fact that many real cinemas have joins in their fabric and they are not visible. A real cinema should have an image of around 16 footlamberts (+/-4) and many HTs are closer to 12, so you may find that you are able to join the cloth without any problems...
