I don't know much about projectors, but I saw this and its cheaper than most hdtvs and overall has great reviews. I have a few questions about it, that hopefully some of you who have this or know a lot about this stuff could kindly answer.

Is this good for watching sports?(football, hockey) Basically is it good with motion?

How would this compare with the 46" Samsung DLP and 42" Panny Plasma I use? Picture quality etc....

Could I just use a white wall or is putting out more money for a screen worth it?

Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my HC1500 and 92" screen for about a month now and would never go back to a "tiny" 42 to 46 inch screen. The only real issue is of course, ambient light. If you have control over your lighting, picture quality is amazing....depending on the source. I watch OTA HDTV and HD-DVD almost exclusively. Football in HD is incredible...I've noticed no motion artifacts with any sports. I think you would be impressed with the image on just a wall....however, a good screen will definitely make a difference. Enjoy!

Just got mine today. Picture is great but does not compare to plasma. However the sheer size of the image overcomes that easily.

The projector seems to handle motion a little better than my plasma (I have a Dell so that doesn't really mean anything)

There are plenty of people who use a white wall and love it. I think you just have to be a good painter. I was projecting on my wall before hanging the screen and I found out that I am not a good painter, could see tons of flaws. I got the screen free with mine and even it though it is an el cheapo screen it looks good.

As gdoc said, if you can control the light then go with the HC1500 and you will not be disapointed.

Couple of other thoughts; pj's require bulb changes which run several hundred bucks so if you use it as your main tv that could add up depending on the amount of tv you watch. Also, this pj, as well as others, do not do good with SD material. I have Dish and the SD channels are pretty rough. May be better with cable.

Thanks for the great responses.

I've never watched tv on a projector before, but I can't imagine what watching football would be like. :)

I got mine on Monday.....and it rocks!! It is my first Pj and I was skeptical. But, once I connected my PS3 to it and powered it on...AMAZING. I have it projecting on a white wall and even with light it look good. Let me tell you this...I have a 100 watt bulb (I didn't know that til yesterday) with no lamp shade and I was still able to watch Spidey 3 on Bluray. It was washed out but viewable. Of course when the lights are off it looks ridiculous. I plan on getting a lower wattage bulb and a screen but overall I am super impressed with the HC1500.

Digital cable with Cox, using DVR 8300 box and HC1500, channels looks pretty nice. Thats regular digital channels, scifi (50), mythbusters(23), movie channels(200 thru 24x), etc.

Cable box set to do 720p and 1080i Only.

This is my first pj as well and I don't know why I waited so long to get in the game. Oh yeah, now I remember, I'm married :D. My kids flipped out and the wife just laughed at the size of the screen.

Anything HD is unbelievable. I got it yesterday and watched it for about 4 hours with various HD content playing with the settings. I went back to the room with the 42" plasma and felt like I was looking at an iPod.

I got a Samsung LNT5265F LCD HDTV in September for the living room and love it. The family quickly decided that SD TVs were no longer acceptable, so we started to run into viewing conflicts. I absolutely didn't want to spend big bucks on another HDTV right now, so I started looking at projectors for the den. Bought the Mitsubishi HC1500 at the beginning of December and it's been great.

We use the PJ primarily for sports, especially football and basketball. It's not quite as sharp as the TV, but it really looks great, even on a white wall. (Planning a DIY screen, but haven't done it yet.) You just can't imagine how great it is to watch sports on a 90"+ picture until you see it for yourself. We haven't noticed any motion artifacts during plays.

Light control is important, but you still see an excellent picture with some ambient light. I say go for it! By the way, you might consider checking out Amazon.com's warehouse deals division. I got my Mitsubishi HC1500 in a damaged box for $753 with free shipping.
