Hello ,
I've got a Sharp LC45GD7U with firewire, a jvc DVHS cassette deck, an SA4250HD Cablevision box, and considering an external hard drive.
First Question: I can't for the life of me get my cable box to connect with the tv. The tv does not reckognize the box. The tv will connect with the dvhs deck and control it. If I use only firewire cables to hook up, the cable box starts acting weird and super slow to commands to power on and off. I cannot get a picture. However, I can connect the cable box with firewire direct to the dvhs deck and it'll work ONLY if I connect the dvhs deck to the tv via component video cables. The drawback to this method is that the dvhs deck barely connects and I cannot get on screen guides, and must tune through my cable box. Also, I cannot control my dvhs through my tv and it's remote. It will not work if I disconnect the dvhs deck and connect the cable box directly to the tv. The dvhs deck works perfectly when connected without the cable box to the tv with firewire. I've tried several cable boxes, including the 4200hd, and multiple tries with each model. Does anybody know of a way to get it to work together in harmony?
Second: Can I get an external computer hard drive that connects via firewire such as the Western Digital Mybooks and somehow use it to record and playback my tv content through my tv's remote?
My firewire woes are depressing me... I bought into it thinking it would be so easy, and neat & clean. Over two years later and dozens of calls to cablevision, sharp, jvc, I just can't get it to work as I was told it should.
Thanks guys.
