View Full Version : Panasonic DMR-EZ27 Question/Problem
Sandman70 01-23-08, 11:26 AM Hi all
Was wondering if anyone here could help with this problem im having ,tell me what could be causing it,or some things i could try to get rid of it.
I just bought the recorder a week ago,so its new, hooked it up same way as my old one and according to the manual.Recorded off the tv,seems to be ok played back on the panasonic but when i put the disc in my pc there is a green line down the left hand side of the video.Tried a different drive ,different players even converting it to a different format for the pc still shows.Yesterday i hooked my old recorder up to the new recorder and did one that way same outcome, that disc i recorded off works fine on both.
Havent upgraded the firmware or tried another brand of disc, not sure if they would matter.
I contacted both the place where i bought it and the manufacturer with no response.I am going to try to return it for a new one to try but want to try any options first..
Thanks if anyone could give me any ideas it would be appreciated..sorry if that sounded confusing kinda new with this..
I personally haven't heard that one before. Don't think any firmware or different DVD's would make a difference. It sounds like a defective unit. Just curious what outputs your using. Are you using the HDMI out on the new recorder? Have you tried a different channel to record off of? One other thing, is the line visible when playing a commercial DVD on the new Panny? Just a couple thoughts, although it sounds like the unit to me.
Sandman70 01-23-08, 04:45 PM Ive since tried a different DVD brand that didnt matter.Im just using the standard A/V Cable no HDMI and i tried a differnt channel same thing. The commercial DVDs play fine on it,the place i bought it from has no ideas so they are going to take it back..dont know if i want to exchange it or get a refund and try a different one, other than this problem it seems like a good unit, any other you could recommend looking at??
If you don't need the HDMI(which IMO the component's look the same PQ) I would suggest the EZ-17. Should be about $50 less than the 27, and only lacks the HDMI. Note it seems the 17 is a little harder to find than the 27 for some reason, but feature wise they are almost identical. IMO they have the best PQ in DVDR's right now.
Sandman70 02-06-08, 03:22 PM hey jeff
i have since returned the panasonic recorder and bought a magnavox and with this unit there is a blue line on the recording.ive searched other forums and cant find anything on this.heres what i tried .
cable hookup only.
rca cable hookup.
s-video hookup.
different tv.
different location of cable hookup.
different brand disc.
my old sanyo recorder didnt do this and the only thing i see different on these new models is progressive scan, which i have disabled.think i should buy a component cable and try enabling thias feature?
all with the same result.only thing i didnt try with this one was a recording from another dvd player direct to bypass the cable all together rule out that it is coming from my cable source.
panasonic got back to me and suggested it may be my pc resolution but i have tried changing it on my desktop, tried my laptop, also tried another desktop all with the same result.could it be possible to have another faulty machine from another co.im stuck dont know what else to try..
dangerousdave 02-20-08, 10:48 PM Thinking about purchasing the EZ27 but found this on a Google search.
"It will also only record in stereo, or 16:9 on dvd-ram only -- a factor I did not expect, as even my old svhs recporder will do stereo onto vhs tapes.. so with all that said, and dvd+rw only able to record in 4:3 and mono sound, it's going back to the store."
Any truth to the statement that it does not record in stereo on DVD + - ?
No truth. I record stereo 16x9 to R/RW discs all the time. Note there will not be the flag for the 16x9 material, which means if you play it back on a 4x3 TV the picture will look vertically stretched(people will be tall and skinny).
As far as the audio thing, I think they might be referring to SAP? I think RAM discs are the only discs that record both?? stereo and SAP. Regular discs only record one or the other, not both. Note neither record anything other than standard 2 channel stereo. I don't believe any standalone DVD recorder will record 5.1 audio.
dangerousdave 02-26-08, 11:54 PM Hi,
I want badly to pull the trigger on the EZ27 but found this comment via a Google search at gosale.com.
The biggest problem I have with this is again the same problem I had with the Sony GX355. It will not record many TV shows because of copyrights. The difference is with the Panasonic it will actually start to record and at some point in time (maybe 10min, maybe 20min) it will stop and give the copywright message. If your quick about it you can just hit record again and miss 5 seconds of recording.
For the people with this recorder, how much truth is there to that statement? Looking to record a lot off of TV such as Letterman, The Office, American Idol etc. Is this a big problem with ANY DVD recorders?
Thanks,
Dave
I don't think you're going to have problems with any of the programs you listed. I believe there "can" be problems with CP on pay networks like HBO etc. It looks like all the shows you listed are OTA channels, and others have cited some rule that they cannot be incripted with a CP bit.
Also note when backing up DVD's I have never had the CP change. That is if the DVD is not CP'd it will copy the whole way through. If it is, it will fail off the bat. Now I suppose they could? enable the bit during some part of the program, but that would sure be nasty. Like you said if you weren't around you might see it start and think everything is ok, only to have it fail later. Again I've never seen this happen with commercial DVD's, but I suppose? it could, I'm just not sure.
Note Sony's are particularly picky to CP, whether real or imagined. I don't believe Panasonic is nearly as bad.
rgazzara 02-27-08, 08:36 AM Jeff is correct. I have never encountered any CP problems with any of my Panasonic DVDRs, for non-pay channels.
dangerousdave 02-27-08, 11:17 AM Excellent, thanks vm jjeff & rgazzara for helping me rest easier. Will place an order today or tomorrow.
