Keep in mind that Dutch releases have full English menu's. :D Although so far they haven't supported pop-up menu's. :(

Just watched this one the other night. It is a wonderful transfer. It gets soft at times and brilliantly sharp at others, especially on the face closeup shots. The audio is very nice (none of the tinny sound you get like in Brotherhood of the Wolf), but I don't have a system to make a strong audio judgement (Sennheiser HD-650's on a moderate receiver).

The Directors Cut has a different ending than the theatrical release (which I liked) that is not available on the disc including the 2 alternate endings on there. I have not yet had a chance to check the bonus features. There are a few HD trailers on it for Rescue Dawn, Saw IV, The Mist, and 1408 all of pretty good quality though.

It's a pop up menu, no effects roll outs or fades, just on and off, not as smooth navigating as some but more convenient than a home screen menu.

Yeah I would agree with you 100%. The PQ was very good, not as good as the best releases but I can't imagine this is a film that is supposed be eye candy. The audio was fantastic, and I can't even get the MA extension. Great use of the surrounds. Yeah the menus are more of a Blu-ray style pop up menu.

Yes. DD+ on Imports is rare actually. Most are DTS-HD, but even the DTS "core" sounds fantastic.

I don't think it had english subs. No bookmarks, alternate endings and trailers played fine for me didn't watch everthing on the disc though.

If there is no bookmarking facility I would then import the Blu-ray version which gets a MPEG-4 AVC encode.

Being in Japan and considering the re-sale value I ordered the Blu-ray version over the HD DVD version. If the HD DVD had bookmarking facility I would have ordered the same.

My wife and I both loved the movie, very intense, and a good story as well! Great DTS MA! Lots of action from the surrounds, made me jump more than once. (A35 Onkyo 605)

Could someone with the disc please physically check to see whether it does or doesn't have English subtitles and/or SDH captions?

I have a deaf friend who'll happily buy it *today* (and invite me over to watch it, or let me borrow it next week :cool:) if it definitely has English subtitles or captions. Thanks!

i hope you enjoy it mate i imported the bluray of it when tony got it in stock because it only just came out on dvd in my country , its a great looking film and very good film to boot.
