I ordered 1408 on HD DVD but I would like to change it to Blu-ray version? I sent a quick email but I am worried that they will ship out the movie before they read my email. Thanks. I sent a quick email but I am worried that they will ship out the movie before they read my email. Thanks. Its tough to get a hold of Tony by phone, but the email is fantastic, and I would venture to say you have heard back from him already. cnikirk 01-23-08, 08:07 PM Just bought a copy. This is a great film. Claw97000 01-23-08, 09:35 PM Do they ever have BOGO sales? If they ever did I would go completely broke! akbled 01-25-08, 10:44 PM Keep in mind that Dutch releases have full English menu's. :D Although so far they haven't supported pop-up menu's. :( F.Y.I. This one does have pop-up menus. GamerGuyX 01-26-08, 12:53 AM F.Y.I. This one does have pop-up menus. Yeah I heard about that on another forum. It's great news. :) digitalpcht 01-26-08, 08:08 AM Just watched this one the other night. It is a wonderful transfer. It gets soft at times and brilliantly sharp at others, especially on the face closeup shots. The audio is very nice (none of the tinny sound you get like in Brotherhood of the Wolf), but I don't have a system to make a strong audio judgement (Sennheiser HD-650's on a moderate receiver). The Directors Cut has a different ending than the theatrical release (which I liked) that is not available on the disc including the 2 alternate endings on there. I have not yet had a chance to check the bonus features. There are a few HD trailers on it for Rescue Dawn, Saw IV, The Mist, and 1408 all of pretty good quality though. It's a pop up menu, no effects roll outs or fades, just on and off, not as smooth navigating as some but more convenient than a home screen menu. Hope this gives some idea. akbled 01-26-08, 01:13 PM Just watched this one the other night. It is a wonderful transfer. Yeah I would agree with you 100%. The PQ was very good, not as good as the best releases but I can't imagine this is a film that is supposed be eye candy. The audio was fantastic, and I can't even get the MA extension. Great use of the surrounds. Yeah the menus are more of a Blu-ray style pop up menu. GamerGuyX 01-26-08, 01:36 PM Its interesting to note that there is no Dolby Digital Plus track included on the disc. Only standard Dolby Digital at 448kbps. Of course it all pales in comparison to the DTS-HD Master Audio track thats included (with a DTS Core of 1.5 Mbps). Although I'm not sure what bit depth or sample rate the lossles is encoded in. Also, if any of you are interested in screen caps or pics of the pop-up menu check out the thread on H-DD: http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=38315&page=6 JoeBel 01-26-08, 02:20 PM Awesome just grabbed it & threw in The Elephan Man HD, been waiting for a reason to grab it from there also, thanks! Blacklac 01-26-08, 06:54 PM I thought the exact same thing, I was under the impression that DD+ was mandatory, I guess it more or less has just become a US standard. Yes. DD+ on Imports is rare actually. Most are DTS-HD, but even the DTS "core" sounds fantastic. MidnightWatcher 01-27-08, 01:50 AM Fantastic movie. Worth the price imo: Dutch FilmWorks - 1408 (Director's Cut) 113 minutes Main feature presented in: 1080p High-Defintion 16x9 2.35:1 dts-HD Master Audio 5.1 (English) Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) Dutch subtitle optionBonus contents on the disc includes: Feature Commentary by Mikael Hafstrom and Writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski Deleted Scenes Alternate Endings The Characters Featurette The Director Featurette Production Design Featurette Physical Effects Featurette TrailerCouple of screen shots (http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showpost.php?p=686419&postcount=89): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/fishface45/DSCN3144.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/fishface45/DSCN3143.jpg lgans316 01-27-08, 02:20 AM Does this have ENGLISH subs (looks like it doesn't) and bookmarking facility ? It says extras are in 576i ? Do they play properly in NTSC players ? I don't think it had english subs. No bookmarks, alternate endings and trailers played fine for me didn't watch everthing on the disc though. lgans316 01-27-08, 03:20 AM If there is no bookmarking facility I would then import the Blu-ray version which gets a MPEG-4 AVC encode. GamerGuyX 01-27-08, 11:52 AM If there is no bookmarking facility I would then import the Blu-ray version which gets a MPEG-4 AVC encode. VC-1 does just fine. lgans316 01-27-08, 09:02 PM Being in Japan and considering the re-sale value I ordered the Blu-ray version over the HD DVD version. If the HD DVD had bookmarking facility I would have ordered the same. applejackaz 01-28-08, 09:23 AM My wife and I both loved the movie, very intense, and a good story as well! Great DTS MA! Lots of action from the surrounds, made me jump more than once. (A35 Onkyo 605) miamicanes 02-14-08, 10:30 AM Could someone with the disc please physically check to see whether it does or doesn't have English subtitles and/or SDH captions? I have a deaf friend who'll happily buy it *today* (and invite me over to watch it, or let me borrow it next week ) if it definitely has English subtitles or captions. Thanks! rsigley 02-14-08, 11:00 AM no english subtitles or SHD captions sorry miamicanes 02-14-08, 11:24 AM ok, thanks! yrly 04-21-08, 02:03 AM I ordered a copy of this today as a tossup between the HD DVD and Blu-ray versions. I like the movie and I've got more HD DVD players at the present than Blu-ray players so I went with that one. Can't wait to watch it and see how it looks in person.
